The General Administration of Customs recently issued an announcement reminding consumers to "temporarily do not purchase through any channels" and "immediately suspend the consumption" of related infant and toddler products of Abbott.
On February 18, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced that it was investigating complaints of four infants infected with Cronobacter and Salmonella incidents, the announcement showed. The four babies reportedly consumed milk powder produced by Abbott at Sturgis, Michigan, brands including Similac, Alimentum and EleCare, the FDA said.

The reporter checked the official website of the FDA and found that according to the preliminary investigation results, the FDA recommends that consumers temporarily refrain from purchasing and eating the following infant formula milk powder of the enterprises involved: the first two digits of the product code are numbers 22 to 37; the code on the container contains K8, SH or Z2; and the shelf life is April 1, 2022 and later.
After verification by the General Administration of Customs, the above products have not been exported to China through general trade; the special medical products produced by the enterprises involved, the "Xikang Baby Tim" infant nutrition supplement, have export records to China, and Abbott China has launched an independent recall.
It is worth noting that the failure to export to China through general trade does not mean that mainland consumers cannot buy these products. The General Administration of Customs reminds consumers not to purchase the above infant formula through any channels. If you purchase the relevant batch of infant formula milk powder of the enterprise through non-general trade channels such as Haitao, the consumption will be suspended immediately. If you purchase the above special medical products, suspend the consumption immediately.
The announcement said that the General Administration of Customs will closely follow up on the progress of the FDA's investigation and inform consumers in a timely manner.
