The Nangong Bell Inscription was written in the fourth year of the Tianhan Dynasty (97 BC) of the Han Wu Emperor, and this inscription shows some characteristics of the bronze inscription in the Western Han Dynasty, although it retains the legacy of the seal book knot, it changes the circle of the seal book inscription to a square fold.
[Western Han Dynasty] Nangong Bell inscription
The glyph of the inscription is decent, flat and square, and on the whole, the folding pen is very obvious. The engraving technique is simple and straightforward, and the lines are straight forward.
In the evolution of calligraphy from seal calligraphy to Lishu, the lines became rounded and square, and a relatively straight cone-shaped line appeared in Lishu, while retaining the basic form of the seal line from thick to thin.
