Which is better for off-roading?
Let's first look at the two structures, the guan knife and the five-link rod are fixed by two fulcrums on the bridge body, but the guan knife is fixed by a fixed arm to fix the two fulcrums, and the five-link is to use the upper and lower two arms to fix the two fulcrums, which determines that the bridge body will be different in the way of movement. Because there is only one arm to do the rotational movement of the bridge body of the closing knife, this will cause the angle of the car's axle shell and the differential to change with the movement of the closing knife, which shows that when we modify the chassis to rise, we must not only solve the shortening of the wheelbase, the change of the mainspin inclination angle and solve the problem of the angle of the spring seat of the differential angle.
Then look at the off-road aspect, the height of the left and right wheel stroke when crossing the shaft will be limited to the fixed rubber sleeve of the fulcrum and the amplitude of the deformation of the knife itself, so the stroke of the closing knife is not the best one when off-road; look at the five-link, although it also has two fixed fulcrums on the bridge body, but in the upper and lower positions, and the two fixed points are linked with two levers, so that when the bridge body is moving up and down, the angle of the differential and the bridge shell will also be horizontally corrected with different heights. The fixed position of the pull-up lever on the bridge shell will generally be closer to the center point of the bridge shell than the pull-down lever, which makes the five-linker gain a greater stroke of the bridge body when off-road, so the gap between the left and right strokes of the five-link rod without considering the balance rod factor in the case of the same length will be greater than the closing knife, but the structure of the closing knife is simpler and more stout, if you look at the impact and stability of the upper knife is stronger than the five-link, more suitable for long-distance guaranteed crossing.
Some riders will ask what off-road models are there? For example, we are familiar with the big G, Toyota 7 Series, Guard, Jimney, 80, Tule, etc. are all choosing to close the knife as an arm, these off-road vehicles choose the off knife not because it has a large enough stroke, but because the off knife is more stable and strong, the trip is only slightly weaker than the five links, you can add a CJ differential lock to make up for this weakness.
