Winning three "A's", Lenovo Group promotes carbon neutrality in the whole industry chain

The International Non-Profit Organization Global Environmental Information Research Center (CDP) has calculated that the carbon emissions generated by the supply chain of enterprises are often 5.5 times the emissions of their own operating range, and there is a huge space for carbon reduction and environmental risks in the supply chain, but only 4% of enterprises have set supply chain targets. Therefore, building and managing a green supply chain has become a top priority for enterprises to achieve high-quality development.

In this context, CDP recently released the "Supply Chain Engagement: Driving Speed and Scale" report (hereinafter referred to as the report), and announced the 2021 CDP Supplier Engagement Rating (SER) and Leadership List. Among them, Lenovo Group once again received the highest level in this rating - "A" rating, far exceeding the global, Asian and industry average B-, and together with 517 other companies around the world to become the supplier cooperation rating leader list.

Lenovo Group received a grade A on the 2021 CDP Supplier Engagement Rating

CDP Supplier Engagement Rating is a rating of the effectiveness of corporate and supplier cooperation in addressing climate change and using multiple dimensions such as corporate governance, targets, scope three emissions and value chain participation to assess supplier performance. The rating also highlights the urgent need for companies to conduct green actions throughout the supply chain.

Not only supplier engagement, Lenovo Group also received a leadership level A- in CDP's previously released corporate rating on climate change issues in 2021, and was also ranked A-listed in water security. This also marks that Lenovo Group plays a leading role in addressing climate change, water security and supplier engagement.

In addition, Lenovo Group recently appeared on the 2022 Carbon Clean 200 list released by the global media and investment research institute Gentleman, and ranked 42nd. The list is based on the Business Gentleman's Clean Income Database, which tracks the percentage of revenue a business receives from the clean economy. This is also the recognition of Lenovo Group after being shortlisted for the World's Top 100 Most Sustainable Sustainable Companies announced by corporate gentlemen in January this year.

In order to help China achieve the 30.60 goal, Lenovo Group is moving towards a "zero-carbon future" in a step-by-step and phased manner through short-term, medium-term and long-term goals in a scientific way. In addition to accelerating its own emission reduction, Lenovo Group is also continuing to drive upstream and downstream suppliers in the supply chain to carry out scientific carbon reduction and help suppliers complete green transformation. According to the Environmental, Social and Corporate Governance Report for the 2020/21 fiscal year (ESG Report) released by Lenovo Group, Lenovo Requires its major suppliers to formally report greenhouse gas emissions data annually through CDP or Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) reporting methods and platforms, such as Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions, emission reduction targets, renewable energy targets, etc.

The Lenovo ESG report pointed out that 91% of Lenovo's suppliers have set public emission reduction targets; 83% of suppliers have conducted third-party verification of emission reduction data; 72% of suppliers have set renewable energy targets, and 82% of suppliers track and report renewable energy production and purchases.

Lenovo has also been committed to bringing suppliers to the Science Carbon Target Initiative (SBTi) and making commitments. In the 2020/21 financial year, suppliers accounting for 24% of purchases have committed to joining SBTi or setting scientific carbon targets. Lenovo aims to enable 95% of its suppliers to participate in scientific carbon reduction activities.

According to the CDP report, only 38%, 47% and 16% of companies worldwide work with suppliers on climate change, forest management and water security issues. Only a small percentage of companies are paving the way for truly meaningful environmental action in their supply chains.

Lenovo Group is one of them. Lenovo has transmitted its own scientific carbon reduction actions to the entire value chain, creating a green and scientific supply chain, ahead of the entire industry and even the world. As a leading enterprise of "new IT", Lenovo Group will also be committed to being a pioneer and technology enabler of low-carbon transformation through digital and intelligent technological innovation, and make greater contributions to global temperature control of 1.5°.
