On February 17, international data company IDC released a quarterly tracking report for tablets. In the fourth quarter of 2021, the Chinese tablet market shipped about 7.42 million units, an increase of 20.9% year-on-year. In the whole year of 2021, The shipment volume of China's tablet PC market was about 28.46 million units, an increase of 21.8% year-on-year, setting the highest increase in shipments in the past seven years.
Global and Chinese tablet PC markets over the years
From a global perspective, global shipments of tablets in the fourth quarter of 2021 fell 11.9% year-on-year to 45.54 million units due to slowing demand. For the whole of 2021, the total shipment of tablet PCs worldwide increased by 2.9% year-on-year to 168 million units, the highest level since 2016.
Guo Tianxiang, senior analyst at IDC China, said: After two consecutive years of small growth, the Chinese tablet market ushered in an outbreak in 2021. It is expected that 2022 will be a year of product optimization and technology accumulation, and the Chinese tablet market is expected to continue to grow in the next few years.
