I remember in an issue in early May, a reader asked me if I could test the HP ENVY series, because it is one of the few "flip touch screens", and we haven't reviewed it in years.

I think it makes sense,So I immediately bought one from JD's own operation,The latest HPENVY x360It's still a relatively reasonable model in the "flip touch screen book",Unlike other products, it moves tens of thousands,It controls the price at7199element。

So how does this new product perform in practice?

【Purchase Suggestion】

1. There is a need for tablets and touch screens

2. There are certain requirements for the workmanship of the fuselage

3. Low requirements for performance release

We have been in contact with the HP ENVY x360 series products a few years ago, and it is a good price-performance ratio in this category, and it is still the same this year.

In terms of screen, the measured color gamut volume is 122.7%DCI-P3, the color gamut covers 100.0%DCI-P3, taking DisplayP3 as a reference, the average ΔE is 3.48, the maximum ΔE is 7.44, the maximum brightness of the measured screen is 400nits, and the local maximum brightness in HDR mode can reach 630nits.

Note: Regardless of whether HDR is turned on or not, the screen is DC-like dimming at all brightnesses.

In terms of interfaces, the left side of the fuselage is USB-A 10Gbps, HDMI2.1, and two USB-C 10Gbps (both support PD charging and DP1.4 video output), and the right side of the fuselage is USB-A 10Gbps and 3.5mm audio interface.

In terms of battery life, the test score of the simulation script for daily application is 6 hours and 21 minutes.

In terms of noise, it has a decibel level of 43.6dB at full load. (34.5dB ambient noise)

HP ENVY x360There is also a 16GB memory version, priced at 6699 yuan, if the performance requirements are lower, you can choose the R5/16G/1TB version, priced at 6199 yuan.

So if you want a laptop that works well and supports flipping, then this one is something to consider.

But if you're looking for battery life and performance, then this PC might not be right for you.

For standard pressure processors, we use the Stress FPU for stress testing.

In the full load state, the performance mode is turned on, the CPU temperature is up to 79.6°C, stable at 65.0°C, the power consumption is 23W, and the frequency is about 2.6GHz.

In tablet mode, the CPU temperature is stable at 51.9°C, the power consumption is 15W, and the frequency is about 1.6GHz.

Tablet mode screen temperature

The surface temperature is shown in the image above, with keyboard keycaps up to 43.0°C appearing on the function keys in the upper left corner of the keyboard, 38.9°C for WASD keys, and 29.6°C for arrow keys. The temperature of the left wrist rest is 31.3°C, and the center point of the back is 37.2°C.

In tablet mode, the maximum temperature of the screen is 42.7°C in the lower half, and the average temperature of the screen is 33.4°C. Overall, the HP ENVY x360 is very conservative in terms of cooling, not only is the power consumption limited in tablet mode, but the core temperature is kept very low in laptop mode.

From the perspective of the mold, the first two generations of ENVY x360 have not changed much, mainly because of the iterative improvement of the core, and the difference in the overall user experience is even smaller, and the biggest feature is the flip screen.

Regarding the problem of the screen's "screen window feeling", we have popularized science more than once before, because the touch layer of this OLED screen uses Metal Mesh (metal mesh capacitive touch technology), which is often referred to as On Cell technology.

It can be seen through a microscope that the surface of the OLED screen is covered with a layer of grid. The On Cell technology is lower than In Cell in terms of process difficulty and cost, but the disadvantage is that the screen will have a feeling of "big fruit" when you look closely.

In my opinion, screen screens are all trivial things, the biggest problem is the product form itself, "flip touch screen" is developed with the launch of the Surface series, when Microsoft vigorously promoted the touch screen Windows operating system, as if there was a "touch screen" is to seize the trend of science and technology, just like today's "AI". However, it can be seen from Windows 11 that Microsoft has given up the touch screen operation mode to a certain extent, and major OEMs no longer pay attention to flipping touch screen notebooks, and the focus of research and development has returned to traditional laptops.

From the perspective of [hard parameters], the portability of flipping touch screen laptops is inherently disadvantageous. Under the condition of the same size, the performance, heat dissipation, and battery life are not as good as traditional laptops, and you have to carry the "cost shackles" of touch screen and flip structure, unless you have special and necessary touch screen needs, everyone will recommend you to buy traditional laptops, because they are more cost-effective.

All in all, it's hard to flip the touch screen, and it's not easy to have manufacturers still updating, so let's look at it and cherish it.
