It turned out that the highest-selling car in South Korea in the past 10 years was Hyundai Yazun and the imported car was the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.
According to data research, the sales volume of Yazun in the past 10 years was 1.01681 units, making it the highest-selling model. Hyundai Elantra (876,842 units), Sonata (872,546 units), Shengda (738,815 units), kia Morning (698,869 units) are close behind.
The most imported car sold models are the Mercedes-Benz E-Class with 251,060 units, followed by the BMW 5 Series (194,334 units), the BMW 3 Series (86,717 units) and the Audi A6 (84,517 units).
By brand, the highest number of passenger cars in South Korea was Hyundai With 4,887,937 units, Kia 4,526,804 units, Chevrolet 1,114,895 units, SsangYong Motors 844,170 units, and Renault Samsung 82,998 units.
Among imported car brands, Mercedes-Benz ranked first with 555,262 passenger car registrations in the past 10 years. It is followed by BMW (476,266), Audi (188,696), Volkswagen (179,672), Toyota (94,319) and Lexus (92,324).
Gasoline is the most common by fuel classification, with 7,709,370 vehicles registered in the last 10 years. Diesel vehicles were 4,988,899 units. Liquefied gas vehicles 1,223,659 units. 82,716 hybrids and 191,980 electric vehicles. The number of registered electric vehicles increased by about 138 times from 519 in 2012 to 71,505 last year.
The number of registered vehicles by model is 4,854,244 medium-sized cars, 3,764,947 compact cars, 2,149,971 medium and large cars, 1,503,901 mini cars, 1,436,227 large cars, and 1,256,691 small cars. In terms of type, sedans, SUVs, hatchbacks, RVs, pickup trucks, coupes, convertibles, and station wagons are diminished in this order.
By type of owner, 11,342,622 vehicles (75.8%) were individuals and 3,611,719 vehicles (24.2%) were owned by companies and corporations. By age, the age group of car buyers is in their 40s, 50s, 30s, 60s and 20s, from highest to lowest.
At the same time, during the 10-year period from 2012 to 2021, a total of 1749,861 new cars were registered (126,899,57 units were produced in South Korea and 227,324 imported cars). The average annual registration of local cars in South Korea remains at around 1.3 million to 1.6 million units, while the average annual registration of imported cars is about 130,000 units, which has grown rapidly to 290,000 units since last year.
