In the past, Hong Kong has always been a "hot spot" for Taiwanese students to go to further study, but times have changed, and now Taiwan's universities have become the next stop for many Hong Kong people, walking on the campus of Taiwan, Hong Kong people can be seen everywhere, and they can always hear the familiar rural sounds in a corner.
Some Hong Kong people do not hesitate to "return to campus" at their own expense at the "advanced age" of thirty years old, in order to have a Taiwanese identity card and an opportunity to start over.
Aze told the reason for the determination to fight, much like many people who choose to leave Hong Kong today.
Although he was unable to enter the university in Hong Kong, he still chose to apply for the more difficult science subject, saying that he only thought about the way out in the future, and finally got the admission from the Department of Marine Science of Sun Yat-sen University, which even surprised him.
"It's good to read liberal arts, but there are not many ways out." As soon as you think of a way out, you will choose physics and chemistry, at least give yourself an extra choice." Fortunately, I have taken science related subjects during the examination, even if the results of the examination are far from ideal, but the level can still barely "pick the side of the car", "if the DSE test to 20 points to come to study, should be sure to get a scholarship", although the first academic year is only re-temperature and learning basic knowledge, but he also admitted that he only adapted to it for nearly half a semester.
"The foundation is not played well." But he thinks what makes him most difficult to adapt to is the overall reading atmosphere at National Taiwan University. "In the past, in Hong Kong, where would I sit in a fixed temperature book", Aze, who has been with him for a long time in chemistry, pointed out that the students who can enroll in more well-known universities in Taiwan are mostly "academic bullies" with excellent grades in different places, who are very serious about their studies, and the strong reading atmosphere makes him dare not slacken off, "he will force himself to spend some time to sort out his notes."
And Kaohsiung, where Sun Yat-sen University is located, is also the reason why he feels that he is more focused on his studies. Unlike Taipei, which is closer to Hong Kong-style urban life, his evaluation of Kaohsiung is "not fun", so that he no longer has more time to spend with his confidants after class than in Hong Kong, but has more time to spend on books.
When asked if a group of "middle-aged" classmates who entered the "middle age" and a group of "small circle" would affect social interaction, he laughed and said, "It's all good, roommates can't see it, and they can do sports, there is less generation gap." But when it comes to classmates between classes, he thinks that the generation gap does exist, "watching Youtube movies is different, and they play differently", but the group activities in the class are mostly discussed with preset answers, so the communication is not too much of a problem, but Aze also admitted that he and his classmates basically only communicate in class, and most of the friends around him are classmates from Hong Kong, "It is difficult to know other friends, unless you go to the club."
"But now we mainly spend time on Catch Up to get to know first." Aze said that although he has a heart for many clubs, but in addition to the time left for study and sports, he stressed that his choice to come to Taiwan is to value future development, and at the age of 30, he still does not hesitate to abandon everything in Hong Kong, hoping to "take advantage of the fact that he still reads books and force himself to read in that reading environment." He also felt that if he were in Hong Kong, it would be impossible to return to school, "even if there is a chance, he will not even think that he has repeated in Hong Kong, and he will really die if he reads again", and more importantly, the university tuition fees in Hong Kong are "sky-high" compared to Taiwan.
Aze's current tuition in Taiwan is all the savings saved from his work in the past few years, and he has experienced a student life of only entering and leaving for most of the year, he said that he is considering part-time study, hoping to find laboratory work related to subjects, "you can absorb more professional knowledge, which is useful for the way out later."
Describing being able to return to school to increase knowledge has fulfilled the dream, mentioning the way out, Aze said that he also thought about continuing to study for a master's degree after that. But he said that the most hopeful thing in front of him is to be able to complete a rare school and then take root in Taiwan, "What you couldn't do in Hong Kong before, you have done it now, and you have earned everything."
