Two divisions in Beijing invested 312 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles

Hydrogen is considered the ideal clean energy source for the 21st century. Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles only discharge water during driving, so they are called "the ultimate eco-friendly car".

Wu Zhiquan, deputy director of the Automobile Transportation Department of the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Economy and Information Technology, introduced that the Beijing Winter Olympics put into use a total of 816 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles as the main capacity to carry out demonstration operation services, which is the largest investment in major international events so far; among them, several buses have set a record for the largest number of international sports events in the history of hydrogen fuel cell large bus services. Two competition areas in Beijing have invested 312 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, and since the opening of the Winter Olympics on February 4 to February 14, the cumulative use of hydrogen is about 42.04 tons.

Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles achieve zero carbon emissions in transportation activities, Toyota Mirai passenger cars can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 18.79 kg per 100 kilometers, Toyota Costa minibuses can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 47.01 kg per 100 kilometers, toyota-Foton cooperation 12 meter bus, can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by about 57.86 kg per 100 kilometers.

Green electricity produces green hydrogen, and hydrogen is transported to hydrogen refueling stations at any time

As a hydrogen supply guarantee unit for hydrogen fuel cell vehicles in the Winter Olympics of Science and Technology, Huanyu Jinghui cooperates with Jingneng Group to use the "green electricity" generated by photovoltaics and wind energy to produce hydrogen and realize "green electricity to green hydrogen".

How is hydrogen produced and stored? The reporter saw in the hydrogen energy industrial park of Beijing Huanyu Jinghui Jingcheng Gas Technology Co., Ltd. located in Fangshan District that the electrolysis tank, purification equipment and purification equipment in the water electrolysis hydrogen production workshop are running, and 500 cubic meters of hydrogen can be produced here per hour.

"Hydrogen production through green electricity electrolyzed water, the purity of hydrogen produced is as high as 99.99999%. Zhang Yan, deputy general manager of Huanyu Jingcheng Gas Technology Co., Ltd., said that 10 degrees of electrolysis of 1 kg of water can get 2 cubic meters of hydrogen and 1 cubic meter of oxygen.

The hydrogen is filled by a compressor into a hydrogen long-tube trailer and placed in the hydrogen storage area. A hydrogen long-tube trailer has 10 hydrogen storage tanks that can store 4,000 cubic meters (350 kg) of hydrogen. Zhang Yan said it takes about two hours for each vehicle to fill up with hydrogen, and when it is full, it will transport hydrogen to the hydrogen refueling station at any time. There are more than 100 such car companies, transporting 1.5 tons of hydrogen every day to ensure the Winter Olympics.

How is hydrogen safe during transportation? According to Zhang Yan, before the start of the Winter Olympics, Huanyu Jinghui selected 30 drivers with excellent technical level to participate in the hydrogen energy transportation guarantee work, and formulated a meticulous transportation special emergency plan.

There is also a command center in the industrial park, where information such as vehicle location, travel route, fuel cell status and so on is clear at a glance. The reporter learned that the hydrogen long tube trailer is installed with sensors, the command center can monitor the vehicle pressure and temperature at any time, once the problem is encountered, the command center will receive an alarm, start the emergency plan, and nip the safety hazard in the bud.

Under extremely cold conditions, the mileage of hydrogen fuel buses is not discounted

At the Winter Olympics, Foton Ouhui provided hydrogen fuel buses for three divisions in Beijing, Yanqing and Zhangjiakou. The 12-meter hydrogen fuel cell bus is equipped with eight 70 MPa hydrogen storage cylinders with a total of 46 seats, and the service targets are athletes and Winter Olympic staff.

The Winter Olympics are faced with a completely different working environment from the Summer Olympics, such as starting buses in extremely cold climates, slippery roads with ice and snow, and climbing hills.

According to Liu Jihong, vice president of R&D of Foton Automobile Ouhui Bus Division, under extremely cold conditions, electric vehicles will shorten the mileage due to battery characteristics, and relatively speaking, hydrogen fuel buses have more advantages. Ouhui hydrogen fuel bus is equipped with an all-climate extreme cold-resistant power battery and a dual-motor non-power interruption drive system, which will not reduce the mileage due to the reduction of the external ambient temperature.

It takes about 12 minutes for a bus to be filled with hydrogen, and the cruising range can reach more than 600 kilometers. At the same time, the bus adopts electric safety technology, hydrogen safety technology, and hydrogen-electric coupling safety system to ensure the safety of hydrogen fuel cell buses. The bus has been strongly proved in various environmental conditions such as long-distance endurance, 1700 meters high altitude, ultra-long continuous climbing power and dry air.

He revealed that the hydrogen fuel bus passed the first hydrogen bus side impact test in China. The 1.4-ton terrier hit the hydrogen system of the hydrogen-fueled bus from the side at a speed of 43 kilometers per hour, proving that the vehicle was also very safe under collision conditions.

Hydrogen fuel cells generate waste heat for recycling and heating the interior

Zhangjiakou Chongli racing area has low temperature and heavy wind and snow, and Ouhui hydrogen fuel buses can achieve minus 30 degrees Celsius extreme cold and low temperature start, minus 40 degrees Celsius extreme cold low temperature storage and automatic shutdown automatic protection.

"We have also exclusively developed the 'U degree' integrated thermal management technology, which is the first in China." Liu Jihong said that this technology can recycle the waste heat generated by hydrogen fuel cells, heat the interior of the car, and defrost and fog for the front windshield. When the fuel cell power reaches 75%, full waste heat heating can be achieved, which can reduce the energy consumption of the whole vehicle by 7.6%, and the temperature inside the cabin is maintained at 18 to 20 degrees Celsius.

Due to the use of hydrogen fuel as the main power, the number of carbon emissions of Ouhui hydrogen fuel bus is much lower than that of traditional buses. Taking the Ouhui BJ6122 hydrogen fuel bus as an example, the vehicle can emit about 57.86 kilograms of carbon dioxide per 100 kilometers, and each vehicle travels about 200 kilometers per day, which can reduce carbon emissions by about 115.72 kilograms.

The hydrogen fuel cell vehicles serving the Winter Olympics also include Toyota Mirai second-generation passenger cars and Toyota Costa minibuses. According to Kenji Kwon Teng, executive deputy general manager of Toyota Motor R&D Center (China) Co., Ltd., Toyota Mirai passenger cars apply high-tech technology, and have made a lot of efforts in the miniaturization of power units, the space occupied by the hydrogen fuel cell power part is relatively small, the car can ride five people, the trunk space is no different from other vehicles, and the mileage can reach 850 kilometers.

Background: Hydrogen energy can achieve large-scale applications "from 1 to 100"

The concept of "green" is reflected in all aspects of the Beijing Winter Olympics, and hydrogen energy has become one of the protagonists of green energy demonstration applications. Different from the previous Olympic Games, which used a large number of liquefied natural gas or propane and other gases as torch fuel, the Beijing Winter Olympic torch "Flying" is the world's first set of high-pressure hydrogen storage torches, one of the highlights is the use of hydrogen as the only fuel, hydrogen fuel can ensure that the torch relay is carried out in a low temperature environment, and it is more environmentally friendly and achieves zero carbon emissions.

Wu Zhiquan introduced that the Summer Olympic Games and winter Olympics held in Beijing have formed a fate with hydrogen energy and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles. During the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, 3 hydrogen fuel cell vehicles were running, and the first vehicle hydrogen refueling station in the mainland was built, which opened a demonstration of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles "from 0 to 1"; at the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, hydrogen as the only fuel for the torch, hydrogen fuel cell vehicles became the main force of transportation, and realized the large-scale application and industrialization breakthrough of hydrogen energy and hydrogen fuel cell vehicles "from 1 to 100".

The Beijing Winter Olympics have promoted the improvement of the hydrogen refueling station construction process. "Hydrogen refueling stations are new things, the safety level requirements are high, and the relevant technologies are still in the stage of continuous development and improvement." Wu Zhiquan said that in order to ensure the safe and stable operation of hydrogen refueling stations, Beijing has clarified the approval process for oil-hydrogen joint construction stations, and innovated work procedures and working methods to ensure that the four hydrogen refueling stations serving the Winter Olympics, Qingyuan Street, Wang Quanying, Jinlong and Yanhua Xinglong, have been legally put into operation, accumulating rich experience for the construction of hydrogen refueling stations in the future.
