One of humanity's greatest goals is to find evidence of extraterrestrial life in the universe. In this exploration process, we usually choose some distant planets or star systems, and study the atmospheric composition of these alien worlds to determine the possibility of life... But what if what we're looking for is much closer than we think?
The apparent lack of signs of extraterrestrial life has long been one of the world's largest unsolved mysteries. The universe is so vast, but life on Earth is the only life we know exists. Since the limits of man's understanding of the universe are as great as the infinity of the universe itself, life is likely to emerge at any time without us knowing it.
Lifespan limits our exploration of space travel because there is a limit to the amount of space travel we can do during the time we are alive. But the information is different, not only the transmission speed is faster, but also can be transmitted in multiple directions at the same time. Other intelligent civilizations, even if only one (no matter where they exist in the universe), should be able to receive it if they already have the technology to send information through the stars. But so far, nothing has been found.
We are now in what some scientists call the "great silence of the universe," where extraterrestrial life either doesn't exist or they don't want to be discovered at all. Assuming that the latter proves correct, that is, aliens are deliberately hiding their presence, then the situation changes, and the moon can be reasonably inferred as an ideal location for other extraterrestrial life to build a base.
There is a basis for saying that. On the one hand, the lunar surface is rich in important elements such as hydrogen, oxygen, and iron, which can (theoretically, assuming that potential extraterrestrial life needs material similar to ours) provide the conditions for exploiting a variety of resources (such as water resources), as well as for building buildings and producing machines. In addition, the Moon offers a virtually unobstructed view of space, thanks to its absence of an atmosphere – another advantage.
But most importantly, it's next to a planet, yes, the Earth that carries the only life form in the universe as we know it today. For all of these reasons, plus the "tidal lock" that gives the nearest satellite a doubly mysterious "dark side", the idea of "aliens on the moon" has always been particularly favored by conspiracy theorists.
From a scientific point of view, there is not much evidence that aliens actually exist on the moon, and even the concept of the "dark side" is often mistaken for the idea that the moon carries two completely different worlds — one in which aliens do not exist and the other can exist. But in fact, both sides of the moon can receive sunlight, so the term "dark side" does not exist at all... More precisely, we can only see the visible and invisible sides from the perspective of the Earth.
If aliens live on the visible side, then we can almost certainly know because the lunar surface exposes their existence like Earth. If they lived only on the invisible side, naturally, it would be harder for us to find out about them, but we might have found them by now... But there's no doubt why they seem to be struggling to avoid being caught will be the first major issue between us and them.
Theories about lunar aliens have developed to include the possibility that they are hiding underground ... Perhaps, once again, hidden on the invisible side of the moon. In 2019, researchers detected a mysterious metal-rich substance about five times the size of Hawaii on the far side of the moon. The scientific consensus is that it is likely to be an asteroid with a history of thousands of years, and this case does show that even the moon — the only place we've ever been to outside of Earth — can bring us great surprises.
However, for alien enthusiasts, the underground is also a great place to set up a base. After all, in a hypothetical world with aliens stationed on the moon, if they were to go underground, they would only exhibit a similar geotization strategy as we do. While the absence of an atmosphere on the Moon is greatly beneficial for observing space, as far as we know, it is terrifying for most life, leading to radiation shocks, extreme temperatures, and the increasing likelihood of asteroid impacts, among other things. If humans were to survive on the moon, one plan would be to dig underground caves and tunnels to build a safer dungeon.
So, if aliens lived on the moon, maybe they would do the same. Still, the moon's location remains key. In addition to Earth, there are seven planets in the solar system and many moons to consider, so why would aliens choose the moon? For example, in many ways, Mars is more habitable than the Moon.
But Mars shows no signs of human activity during the three-day round trip (estimated at our own reachable speed). Just as we are constantly looking out from our own planet in search of other creatures, if life is rare in the universe, but an alien race on the moon knows of our existence (but also knows that we are not a long-range threat), it makes sense for them to get as close to us as possible. In this way, if aliens live on the moon, then the Earth will become their petri dish. The "zoo hypothesis" was first proposed in the 1870s, but it is important in this unique approach.
The hypothesis holds that the Earth is in an observed state, i.e., under the watchful eye of an alien race of galactic animal administrators, to study the behavior habits, positive and negative behaviors of all species on Earth, while they purposefully avoid detection. It's a thought-provoking view, but if it's not a terrible idea, as advanced human beings, it's nothing more than a positive demonstration of higher rights. Maybe we might not be a science project at all, but a form of entertainment—deliberately keeping aliens everywhere (but in this case, on the moon) without getting bored.
In reality, whenever we watch reality TV in our lives, we are really just a moment in the ultimate reality SHOW scene, a moment that we ourselves will never understand. Of course, there are other ways to present this theory; aliens live on the moon, and fortunately at the same time we know they're there. In this case, no matter how or why extraterrestrial life is so close to us, our own understanding of life is very different from that of the rest of the universe. Today, we will no longer "look" for extraterrestrial life because its existence has become a well-established fact and we are not alone.
If there are creatures on the moon that are as advanced (or more advanced) as humans, there is a chance to form a smart and scrappy alliance. For example, if aliens live on the moon and are friendly, landing on the moon will suddenly become simple. And long-term residency will be easier to achieve. If the creatures on the moon were no better than we are, their discovery would undoubtedly be one of the greatest breakthroughs in modern science—giving us the opportunity to study real life that doesn't depend on Earth for survival.
On the other hand, this hypothesis is very likely to open up a picture of no shortage of fear, if the aliens really live on the moon and we know that they are there, it is very likely that the situation will not be good. Our relationship with aliens may not be harmonious, and they will be seen by us as some kind of threat, and we will see them as well. In this way, every moment of looking up at the moon in the night sky reminds us of this potential danger. Tensions could spread across the globe, and the global village could become a group tethered by fear, constantly worried about an invisible but apparently alien enemy in the distance.
We can imagine all kinds of situations, such as the aliens on the moon may be hidden omniscient beings, the Earth is completely under its control; they may also be a more powerful race than us, they have long mastered the technology of earth-moon travel, but do not want us to know that this exists; it may also be that some of the lunar aliens are hostile to Earth, but some are willing to be our allies. There are extremely deep cultural factors behind the emergence of the concept of extraterrestrial life, especially extraterrestrial intelligent life, and the influence of fictional works on the imagination of extraterrestrial civilization is particularly strong. Historically, science fiction has always been intertwined with scientific concepts, and science fiction works have opened up a vast imagination garden, enhanced the public's interest in extraterrestrial life, and subtly affected the public's perspective and position.
