On September 30, 1970, The Erqi Locomotive and Rolling Stock Factory manufactured China's first 6,000-horsepower high-power hydraulic transmission trunk freight diesel locomotive, officially named beijing type, vehicle number 6001.

Beijing type 6001 locomotive adopts a two-unit structure, equipped with two 12V240ZJ diesel engines and hydraulic transmission devices.

The locomotive axle type D-D was also the world's largest single-section hydraulic transmission diesel locomotive at that time.

The locomotive is designed for mountain traction of heavy freight trains, adapted to ambient temperatures, taxi 40 degrees.

The locomotive is equipped with two sets of 12240Z diesel engines, and the vehicle quality is 184 tons.

In 1972, after leaving the factory, the No. 6001 car was delivered to the Fengtai locomotive maintenance section of the Beijing Railway Bureau for trial, and between Fengtai West and Shijiazhuang, the traction truck was tested, and the distance was 18334 kilometers.

Vehicle 6001 did not undergo normal traction tests according to the part standard. [Because the 12240Z diesel engine configured at that time has not yet passed the ministerial appraisal, there are some quality problems, and the locomotive itself is the first crab, some quality problems need to be exposed in the test, improved]

In September 1974, the 12240Z diesel engine passed the ministerial appraisal.

In December 1977, the Erqi Factory renovated the No. 6001 car.

In December 1977, the Ministry of Railways and the Beijing Railway Bureau officially issued the Notice of the Ministry of Railways (77) Iron Locomotive Zi No. 1291 "Notice on Arranging the Operation Test of Beijing Type 6001 Diesel Locomotive".

The operation test group is composed of the Beijing Bureau, the Beijing Branch Bureau, the Fengtai Machine Maintenance Section and the Erqi Factory, with the Beijing Bureau as the team leader and the Erqi as the deputy team leader.

In February 1978, it was put into use between Fengtai West of Jingshan Railway and Nancang in Tianjin, Zhangjiakou to Fengtai West of Fengsha Railway, and Fengtai West of Beijing-Yuan Railway to Lingqiu, and completed the traction test of 100,000 kilometers according to the requirements of the current traction quota and operation map of the line, with a total of 104935 kilometers.

During the operation, the exposed problems were improved to meet the requirements of 4,000 tons of traction in the straight section and a speed of 80 kilometers per hour.

In July 1979, the operation assessment and dynamic performance test were completed, and then the Fengtai locomotive maintenance section was put into use.

In June 1981, it was transferred to the Shijiazhuang locomotive depot and put into operation on the Shide Railway.

Later, the whereabouts are unknown.
