Renowned American conductor James Gaffigan will become the next music director of komische Oper Berlin, starting in the 2023/24 season.

James Garfigen is currently serving as Music Director for the first season of the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofía in Valencia, Spain, as Wellcome Symphony Orchestra/Opera As Principal Guest Conductor, Principal Guest Conductor of the Dutch Radio Philharmonic Orchestra and Music Director of the Verbier Festival Junior Orchestra. Starting in the fall of 2023, James Garfigan will begin a four-year contract with the BerlinErbahn until the summer of 2027. Prior to his appointment, he would perform symphonic concerts with the Berliner Schönberg orchestra in the 2022/23 season.

Vladimir Ulin was re-appointed director of the Bolshoi Theater

Vladimir Urin, director of the Bolshoi Theater, will extend his term as president for five years until 2027. Starting with the 2022/23 season, Ryan Wigglesworth has been appointed Principal Conductor of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. He will take office on September 22, 2022, succeeding Thomas Dausgaard, who will continue to serve as concerto conductor until the end of the season.

San Francisco Ballet announced this week that Tamara Rojo, currently artistic director of the English National Ballet (ENB) and Spanish ballet star, will succeed Helgi Tomasson as the ballet's new artistic director at the end of 2022. Rojo also revealed that he is about to completely withdraw from the stage and go behind the scenes.

Tamara Rojo will be the fifth San Francisco Ballet's artistic director and the first woman in the role. The company is the oldest professional ballet company in the United States, founded in 1933. Former Artistic Director Hergi Thomason has been leading the San Francisco Ballet For 37 years. Since becoming artistic director of the British National Ballet (ENB) in 2012, Rojo has changed the company's image in London. Founded in 1950 as the London Festival Ballet, ENB aims to bring ballet across the UK, but has long competed with rivals in the city, the Royal Ballet.
