A British orchestra boycotted Tchaikovsky's work, the former leader of the Brexit party: anti-Russian is too much!

According to russia today television (RT) reported on the 10th, the British Wales Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra was about to hold a concert of Tchaikovsky's works, but the organizers believe that there is a problem, and now the repertoire played has been redesigned, deleting all the works of the famous Russian composer.

The symphonic concert, which will take place on March 18, was originally planned to feature Tchaikovsky's overtures of 1812 and The Marche Slaves, ending with his Second Symphony. Now, these repertoire have been replaced by Dvořák's Eighth Symphony, John Williams' Cowboy Overture, and Elgar's Riddle Variations.

Orchestra conductor Martin May said playing the 1812 Overture was "inappropriate at this time" because the military conflict between Russia and Ukraine was ongoing. The Overture of 1812 was composed by Tchaikovsky to commemorate the invasion of Tsarist Russia against Napoleon's army in 1812.

The orchestra conductor explained his decision, saying: "The decision on this concert is largely based on the current situation. The family of one of the orchestra members is directly involved in the situation in Ukraine, and we are trying to respect the situation in the short term. There are also two military-themed works in the repertoire, The Marche Slave and the Overture of 1812, which we find particularly inappropriate at this time. We were also told that the title of Symphony No. 2, "Little Russia," was considered an affront to Ukrainians. ”

Martin May added that despite the orchestra's decision, there are no plans to change their summer and autumn programs, which include works by Rachmaninoff, Prokofiev, and Rimsky-Korsakov. Martin May concluded: "This was a one-time decision made out of good intentions and was not intended to exclude Tchaikovsky specifically. He's one of my favorite composers. We know that no matter what decisions we make, they won't go well, so we're in a dilemma right now. ”

The RT noted that Russian artists, including Valery Gordiev, chief conductor of the Munich Philharmonic Orchestra, who was fired for failing to take a stance against Russia, and Alexander Malofiev, a 20-year-old piano prodigy, have been increasingly boycotted by the West, RT noted.

According to the British "Daily Express" reported on the 11th, Farage, the former leader of the British Independence Party (UKIP) and the Brexit Party, said in an interview with the British News Channel (GB News) that the orchestra canceled the performance because of its connection with Russian composers, which was like the British who threw stones at them in 1914 because of the German ancestors of the Dax Hounds.

Farage said: "Is this a complete anti-Russian rally? Are we going to take all the Russians who are alive in the world now, including those living in Britain? Is it the fault of the Russians who died 130 years ago? I don't think so...... Are we going a little too far and too fast? Are we a little hysterical? Should Tchaikovsky be canceled? To be honest, I really don't think so. ”
