South Korean diplomats were attacked by unknown men on the streets of New York for no apparent reason, resulting in fractures of the nose bone

According to the ABC, the New York Post, Agence France-Presse and others, on the evening of February 9, a South Korean diplomat was beaten by unknown people while walking with a friend in New York City, and the local police said it was an "unprovoked attack" and not a "hate crime."

At about 8:10 p.m. EASTERN time that day, police reportedly received an alarm call that an attack had occurred on Fifth Avenue and West 35th Street in Manhattan. When police arrived at the scene, they found a 52-year-old man with a swollen face. The NYPD said the victim was a South Korean diplomat.

Upon further investigation, the police learned that a man had approached the victim at the scene of the crime, punched him in the face, and then fled on foot toward Sixth Avenue.

The source said the victim did not say anything to the attacker and had shown his diplomatic credentials during the attack. But the attackers still punched the diplomat in the face, broke his nose and fled.

The victim was subsequently taken to New York University Langone Hospital in Brooklyn and is in stable condition.

Police told ABC News it was an "unprovoked attack" and that the incident was not considered a "hate crime." The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made. Police have also not released a description of the suspect's characteristics.

The South Korean Foreign Ministry confirmed on the 10th that a diplomat of the South Korean mission to the United Nations was injured after being attacked by an "unidentified man" in New York.

South Korea's foreign ministry also said it would not disclose the age and gender of the victims for privacy reasons.

South Korea's Foreign Ministry said in a statement: "It will urge the local police to take prompt and thorough investigation."
