Firefox Reality was first launched in the fall of 2018 and has been offered on Viveport, Oculus, Pico, and Hololens platforms through its various app stores. Over the next few years, Mozilla also brought it to Quest and PC VR headsets.

Wolvic is a minor development based on Firefox Reality's source code, which includes native support for WebXR content and privacy/security. Igalia said its primary focus is to service Android-based standalone XR systems and HarmonyOS tethering systems, and the company said it also hopes to support Qualcomm and Lenovo XR devices in the future.

Brian Kardell, a developer at Igalia, said: "We are delighted that the Firefox Reality browser technology will continue under Igalia, using this work to create a new browser, Wolfic. ”

Wolvic will launch an AOSP-based standalone XR system and HarmonyOS tethering system this week, such as Oculus, Huawei VR Glass, Vive, Pico and Lynx. But the Wolfic version will still be in the "beta phase" because Igalia will still transition some of the features offered by Mozilla.
