The latest IC Insights report predicts that after a sharp 22% increase in global IC shipments during last year's economic recovery, it will increase by another 9.2% to 427.7 billion units this year, which will continue to reach a record high, and is almost 5 times the shipment in 2000 and nearly 44 times that of 1980.

Looking at IC shipments in previous years, IC Insights pointed out that there were five IC shipments declining in 1985, 2001, 2009, 2012 and 2019, but there has never been a two consecutive year of decline in shipments.
In terms of shipment product categories, IC Insights said that the 33 major IC categories defined by the World Semiconductor Trade Statistics (WSTS) will show positive growth in shipments this year, and 12 product shipments will increase annually, which will exceed the expected growth rate of 9.2% of total IC shipments this year. IC Insights also forecasts a COMPOUND annual growth rate of 7% in IC shipments from 2021 to 2026.
