UNITED STATES: The average number of deaths per day in Aomi Kerong exceeds the peak of Delta transmission

Beijing, January 30 (Xinhua) -- The latest data from Johns Hopkins University in the United States show that the death toll of the New Coronavirus Omilton variant in the United States has exceeded the peak of the spread of the Delta variant strain last fall.

The Associated Press reported on the 28th that since the middle of November last year, the number of new covid-19 deaths in the United States for seven days has continued to rise, rising to 2267 on the 27th of this month. When the Delta strain spread in September last year, the number of fatal cases peaked at 2,100. Almost all of the current new infections in the United States are caused by the Olmikeron strain.

Andrew Neumer, a professor of public health at the University of California, Irvine, estimates that the spread of the Omikeron strain could cause more than 1 million COVID-19 deaths in the United States.

A poll by the U.S. Center for Public Affairs Research last week showed that while more Americans are taking measures to prevent the epidemic, many people have relented because of the ongoing epidemic, thinking that they will not be infected with the virus after vaccination or infection.

Previous studies have shown that infection with the Aomi kerong strain has relatively mild or no symptoms. However, there is still a fatal risk of infection with this strain, especially in people of advanced age or other health problems.

Rochelle Vronsky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, stressed at a news conference last week that the Olmikron strain was only "relatively (other) mild," not "mild." (Yuan Yuan)
