The mutant strain XE is recombinant of Omikejong BA.1 and BA.2, and two domestic strains exist at the same time

On April 2, according to The Taiwan United News Network, Luo Yijun, deputy head of the medical response team of the Taiwan Command Center, confirmed on the 2nd that there was a case of XE mutant strain in Taiwan. According to the news published on the British government website, the XE variant strain is a recombinant of the Omikeron BA.1 and BA.2 subtypes.

According to Suzhou, the picture was released.

"The recombinants of Omikejong BA.1 and BA.2 mean that an infected person re-infects another strain before it can be cured and the strain is still active, and a new strain is recombined in vivo." Jin Dongyan, a professor at the University of Hong Kong's School of Biomedical Sciences and an expert in virology, said that this situation is relatively rare because it means that a person has to be infected with two strains at the same time in a short period of time.

According to the reporter's combing, most of the current poisonous strains circulating in the mainland are Aomi Kerong BA.2 subtype variant strains. In recent days, the Suzhou Municipal Center for Disease Control and Prevention introduced that from the perspective of transmission channels, most of the current cases in Suzhou are clearly imported from other provinces and cities, but there are also other isolated cases. For example, on March 28, a mildly confirmed case of Yang Mou, a mildly confirmed case found in Changshu City, Suzhou, was infected with the virus and sequenced and compared to the VOC/Omicron variant BA.1.1 evolutionary branch. This means that there are currently two subtypes of the Continent, the Semirkron BA.1 and BA.2.

"Even so, the current situation is not to be feared, because the chances of infecting two subtypes of mutants at the same time in a short period of time are relatively small." Jin Dongyan explains. On March 29, the World Health Organization said in its latest report that the new mutant, called XE, found in the UK could be more contagious than any new coronavirus strain, and may be the most contagious strain known to date.

"The variants of the two subtypes OF BA.1 and BA.2 are themselves highly similar, so the recombined strains of the two subtypes will not change much, and the characteristics are similar to BA.1 and BA.2. Because the Omiljung BA.1 and BA.2 variants themselves are relatively large, the recombinant XE strains of the two variants may not have a small spread, but the pathogenicity will not change much. Jin Dongyan reminded that in fact, since the new crown epidemic, there are thousands of mutant strains, and there are many recombinant strains, but there are only a few that are really deterrent, so for the current recombinant XE mutant strains, it is indeed necessary to closely detect, but there is no need to worry too much.
