Earlier this year, the new coronavirus recombinant strain XE was first discovered in the UK, which is a recombinant strain of the "Omi Kerong" subtype variants BA.1 and BA.2. WHO has previously said preliminary data show that XE strains are more contagious than BA.2 strains, but more data are needed to confirm the specifics.
