The Mumbai city government of India released a message on April 6 that the city found a case of XE infection with the new coronavirus recombinant strain, which is also the first case of "XE" infection in India.
According to Indian media reports, the case of Mumbai infected with the XE strain is a 50-year-old woman who has been fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Currently, the patient does not develop severe symptoms.
Earlier this year, the new coronavirus recombinant strain XE was first discovered in the UK, which is a recombinant strain of the "Omi Kerong" subtype variants BA.1 and BA.2. WHO has previously said preliminary data show that XE strains are more contagious than BA.2 strains, but more data are needed to confirm the specifics.
