Audi recalled more than 450,000 vehicles in China due to the potential for liquid to seep into the gateway control module

On January 27, according to the announcement on the website of the State Administration for Market Regulation, FAW-Volkswagen Co., Ltd. filed with the State Administration for Market Regulation a recall plan to recall some imported and domesticAlly produced Audi automobiles from February 28, 2022, in accordance with the requirements of the Regulations on the Administration of the Recall of Defective Automobile Products and the Implementation Measures for the Administration of the Recall of Defective Automobile Products.

According to the announcement, FAW-Volkswagen recalled a total of 454,159 vehicles.

The main recall is the number of 453,791 Audi Q5L vehicles manufactured between March 1, 2018 and December 4, 2021.

It is reported that the Q5L car within the scope of this recall is located in a lower position under the rear seat because the gateway control module is located in the lower position under the rear seat, if a large amount of liquid is accidentally spilled on the rear seat, it may enter the gateway control module, resulting in a short circuit inside the gateway control module, which further causes various internal errors. Gateway control module has a safety design, if an untrusted signal is detected, the engine, gearbox, steering system, etc. will enter the protection mode, at this time the transmission clutch will be disconnected, resulting in power interruption in the vehicle, increasing the possibility of accidents, there are safety hazards.

FAW-Volkswagen Motor Co., Ltd. said it will entrust audi authorized dealers to install a protective cover of the gateway control module for the vehicles within the scope of the recall free of charge to prevent liquids from entering and eliminate safety hazards.

The other part is the recall of some imported Audi SQ5 vehicles with a production date of between April 14, 2021 and December 3, 2021, for a total of 368 vehicles.

It is reported that the imported vehicles within the scope of this recall are also located in the lower position under the rear seats because the gateway control module is located in the lower position under the rear seats, and if a large amount of liquid is accidentally spilled on the rear seats, it may enter the gateway control module; in addition, some vehicles may also enter the water through the seams with insufficient sealing at the bottom of the body when driving in heavy rain or deep water. The entry of liquid may cause a short circuit inside the gateway control module, which further causes various internal errors.

FAW-Volkswagen Will entrust an Authorized Audi dealer to install a protective cover for the gateway control module free of charge for the vehicles within the scope of the recall, and for imported SQ5 vehicles manufactured before August 28, 2021, the dealer will also apply glue seals to the area with insufficient sealing under the body free of charge to prevent liquids from entering and eliminate safety hazards.

The announcement on the website of the State Administration for Market Regulation also shows that the recall was carried out when the State Administration for Market Regulation launched a defect investigation. Affected by the investigation, FAW-Volkswagen Automobile Co., Ltd. decided to take recall measures to eliminate potential safety hazards, and will notify the owner of the car through registered letters, text messages, etc., and Audi authorized dealers will take the initiative to contact relevant users and arrange free recall and maintenance.
