With his clever mind, he personally made a pair of wooden skis in order to "race with the sheep".
As time went on, in the process of chasing the sheep, Han Tongyuan's skiing skills became more and more skilled. Although the skiing conditions and ski equipment at that time were far less than they are now, it was still the happiest time for him, because he could slide down the slopes as he pleased, without following any rules.
In 1957, China hosted its first ski games, and the 18-year-old Han Tongyuan won the trophy of the men's 20 km cross-country skiing championship with his flowing skills and speed. The following year in the national competition, he stood on the podium of the championship.
For the ski veteran, perhaps the biggest regret was that he left the Jilin Ski Sports Team in 1963 and became a bulldozer driver in a state-owned enterprise, a decision that directly led to his lack of access to international competitions. After 17 years as a driver, one day, Han Tongyuan met a teammate who had fought on the same ski team, and the latter persuaded him to put on his ski suit again and become a professional ski instructor at a sports school in Jilin Province.
