In 2021, the total charging capacity reached 11.15 billion kWh, an increase of 58.0% year-on-year. From the data of public charging piles, in 2021, the overall number of public charging piles exceeded 1 million units, reaching 1.147 million units. The construction of charging piles is still vigorously promoted, but at the consumer level, there are many car owners who still do not perceive the increase in the number of charging piles. The installation and use of charging piles is still a mountain in front of electric vehicle owners, and the reasons for this are complex.

Four sets of plans, there is always a way to deal with anxiety

By the end of 2021, the Charging Infrastructure Alliance had sampled 381,000 pieces of data on the reasons for "not building charging facilities with the car", of which the three factors of "the user built the pile by himself", "there is no fixed parking space in the place of residence", and "the property of the place of residence did not cooperate" were the main reasons for not building charging facilities with the car.

Among these three factors, the reason of "the residence property does not cooperate" has poked at the pain points of many users. In some of the original communities, the installation of private charging piles requires dealing with various departments, including the property, and the approval process is complicated.

On May 20, 2021, the Energy Bureau of the National Development and Reform Commission issued the "Implementation Opinions on Charging and Replacing Infrastructure", which discussed the problem of charging in residential areas as the first chapter, which shows that the relevant government departments will focus on solving the problem of charging in residential areas next.

"According to the analysis of the Charging Alliance, there are currently four ways to solve the problem of charging in residential areas." Tong Zongqi said.

First of all, in the latest "Implementation Opinions", the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development requires new residential areas to "100% reserve charging interfaces" and needs to build a certain proportion of charging piles. This part of the charging pile needs to be built and managed by real estate enterprises or properties in the construction of houses.

"Private pile sharing is also an increasingly popular practice at present." Tong Zongqi said that many of the newly released new energy vehicle "car parts piles" are also smart piles, which can be logged on to the Charging Alliance platform for monitoring. Willing car owners can share their own private piles to provide charging services for other car owners in the community who have not installed charging piles.

"The mileage of new energy vehicles is mainly 500 kilometers, and at present, more than 80% of car owners are still mainly based on urban traffic, for our car owners, charging once a week is enough, and other times can be released to other car owners for charging." Tong Zongqi explained that this will effectively revitalize the idle time of private piles, improve the efficiency of use, and achieve more in one fell swoop.

The third way is "public charging". Tong Zongqi said that at present, some operators will build unified charging stations in the middle of several communities to solve the charging problem of several communities. This operating idea is more similar to a gas station.

The fourth way is about "storage-charge piles". As the name suggests, this charging pile comes with its own battery, which can be charged or stored. "There are two or four battery packs in the charging pile, each about 40 kWh of electricity, which will output nearly 200 kWh of electricity in total." Introduction of Tong Zongqi.

At present, charging piles are an important means of power replenishment for electric vehicles. At the same time, power exchange schemes are also rapidly popularizing. Compared with charging pile charging, power exchange charging is fast and low cost. In the popularization of the power exchange model, car companies and power exchange operators are the main driving force.

According to alliance data, the number of substations on the mainland in 2021 is 1298. Among them, Beijing has the largest number of substations, reaching 255. The second-largest province is Guangdong Province, with a total of 178 substations.

Looking ahead to 2022, the Charging Alliance has also made a vision. It is estimated that in 2022, 1.9 million new charging piles will be added to the vehicle, and the number of charging piles equipped with the vehicle will reach 3.37 million.

In the "Implementation Opinions on Further Improving the Service Guarantee Capacity of Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure" issued on January 10, 2022, the relevant departments proposed that by the end of the "14th Five-Year Plan", a moderately advanced, balanced layout, intelligent and efficient charging infrastructure system will be formed, which can meet the charging needs of more than 20 million electric vehicles.

With the advancement of a series of initiatives, "charging anxiety" may be together with "battery life anxiety", and the charging infrastructure and more and more advanced charging technology that are constantly popularized will be swept into the garbage heap of history. There may be pain before the industrial change, but the dawn of new energy owners who want to achieve "charging freedom" has begun to appear.
