The 5G news is finally here! On the afternoon of January 25, China Telecom held a 5G news commercial conference to officially announce that 5G news has entered the commercial stage.

In terms of specific tariffs, individuals receive free of charge and send the same as current TEXT messages; enterprises charge separately according to different message types.
In addition, some operator insiders revealed to Nandu reporters that the 5G news of mobile and Unicom has also met the formal commercial conditions and will be released to the public soon.

Users don't need to download the client to receive 5G messages
5G news has been hailed as "the first 5G application that is truly geared towards the C-end". In April 2020, the three major operators of China Telecom, China Mobile and China Unicom released the "5G News White Paper", jointly launched the 5G message service, and then the application imagination of 5G news emerged in an endless stream.
The "White Paper" mentions: "Operators' traditional SMS services can no longer meet the diverse needs of users due to their simple functions and limited experience. In the 5G era, traditional SMS services need to be upgraded to rich media messaging services – we call them 5G messaging services. ”
It is understood that the 5G messaging service is a new upgrade of the terminal's native basic short message service, realizing the multimedia and lightweight of messages, and realizing the interaction of industry messages through the introduction of MaaP technology. Users using 5G messages do not need to download the client, in the terminal native message entrance can receive 5G messages, users can send text messages, but also send pictures, audio and video and other media and a variety of formats of messages.
Nandu reporter learned that the 5G messaging business is divided into two categories, one is the message of interaction between individual users and individual users, and the other is the message of interaction between industry customers and individual users. For individual users, 5G messaging will break the length limit of each piece of information in traditional SMS, and the content will also break through the text limitation to achieve the effective integration of text, pictures, audio, video, location and other information. For enterprises, 5G messages will provide them with an interface for information interaction with individual users. Enterprises can output personalized services and consultations to users through rich media methods such as text, voice, and tabs. For example, in the conversation with 12306, the user can quickly realize ticket reservation, payment, change and other operations by sending voice or text, clicking on keywords, etc.
Since then, the commercialization of 5G news has become a hot topic of public concern.
Fewer terminals and operators cannot communicate with each other as the current problem
Nandu reporter learned that in May 2020, China Mobile's 5G news was briefly listed on the App Store, but it was soon removed. China Mobile responded that in order to protect the "5G message" name from malicious preemption, the APP was launched in the application market, and due to some technical problems, the APP was temporarily offline and will be re-launched later. In December 2021, China Mobile officially said that Shanghai Mobile, together with China Mobile Internet, China Mobile Research Institute, China Mobile Information Technology Center, China Mobile Terminal Company and ZTE, successfully completed the 5G messaging private network pilot in the 5G News Innovation Center.
In November 2021, China Unicom announced the trial commercial use of 5G messaging and launched the "5G Messaging Experience Recruitment Campaign" to provide free 5G messaging experience packages for corporate customers and individual users.
It is understood that there are currently three terminal manufacturers that support China Unicom's 5G messages, the terminal models are Youchangxiang 30e MediaTek Edition; ZTE Axon 30, Axon 30 Pro, Axon30Ultra, Axon 30 Zhizhen, S30 SE, S30, S30 Pro, Yuanhang 10; Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra.
It is worth noting that 5G messages do not support the interconnection of the three operators, the messages sent to mobile and telecom users will still be sent in the form of sms, if the 5G messages sent contain pictures, audio and video and other content, it will be converted into a text message with a link, and the other party can click the link to view after receiving the SMS.
On December 21, 2021, the 5G News Joint Laboratory jointly established by the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology, the three major operators, ZTE, Huawei and other units was inaugurated. According to reports, the laboratory will study the 5G news product evaluation plan, carry out the evaluation work based on the evaluation plan, and work with other partners in the industry to jointly formulate and promote relevant specifications.
At that time, some sources said that some operators will promote the commercial use of 5G news in January 2022.
However, it is worth noting that in December 2021, at the China Value-added Telecom and Virtual Operator Summit Forum, Miao Jianhua, president of the China Communications Enterprise Association, said that the current domestic 5G news development is in its infancy, and there are still many problems, mainly due to the small number of service terminals; there are problems with service interconnection; there are fewer demonstrations of 5G news applications; and the planning of orderly and standardized development needs to be further improved.
On January 25, Miao Jianhua further expressed his position on 5G news and put forward five suggestions: one is to further accelerate the large-scale coverage of 5G message terminals; the second is to further strengthen the construction of 5G message standards; the third is to further explore the 5G message operation model; the fourth is to further accelerate the creation of benchmarking demonstrations and promote regional pilots; and the fifth is to further carry out research on regulatory policies and technical means.
Tang Ke, deputy general manager of China Telecom, said that 5G messaging, as an upgrade of traditional SMS, can become an important basic service for operators on 2B and 2C. For the development of 5G news, he believes that: first, strengthen promotion, rapidly form a scale, and build 5G news into a new entrance to digital services; second, strengthen the integration of 5G messages with new technologies such as cloud computing, AI, big data, and blockchain, and empower thousands of industries; third, work together to build and share a new 5G news ecosystem.
