Panasonic has confirmed that it will invest in a new battery production plant this year, mainly a test production line, but the more specific project plan has not been revealed.

According to related reports, Panasonic plans to invest $705 million in the production and manufacture of new 4860 batteries, which is likely to be put into operation at Panasonic's Wakayama Prefecture plant in Japan, and is expected to produce 150,000 4680 batteries per year.
The 4680 battery was launched in October last year and has a capacity of about 4 times larger than the current battery. After replacing the 4680 battery, Tesla is expected to increase the cruising range by 20% and reduce the production cost of the battery cell by 10-20%.
Taking the Tesla Model S with a range of 650 kilometers as an example, the follow-up flight with a 4680 battery may be increased to 750 kilometers, which is expected to compete with the 770-kilometer endurance of the Mercedes-Benz EQS.
Tesla originally wanted to produce its own 4680 batteries, but for cost and other considerations, it finally entrusted the production to Panasonic, and it is rumored that after the mass production of 4680 batteries next year, it will first be supplied to the US market.
Panasonic has been its battery supplier since Tesla's first car off the production line, in order to reduce cost control and expand supply, Tesla later introduced South Korea's LG Energy Solution and Cathe times to supply batteries to its Model Y and Model 3 models.
