Empress Dowager Longyu was originally the empress of the Guangxu Emperor. She was born into the Yehenara family. She was the empress chosen by Cixi for Guangxu. It was reasonable for such a family to be able to live in the palace. Unfortunately, Longyu was not favored by the Guangxu Emperor. On the contrary, because her family was suspicious of the emperor, she was unhappy all her life.
But fortunately, she did not become unhappy because of the emperor's negligence. Instead, she stayed in the deep palace for a long time, from an empress to an empress dowager, witnessing the destruction of the Qing Dynasty. Generally speaking, there is no good end after the death of the fallen queen, but Longyu is different. On February 22, 1913, Empress Longyu died of illness at the Changchun Palace in the West Palace at the age of 46. After her death, she won the respect of the people of the country and later received a higher evaluation.
The Republic of China held a grand state funeral for Empress Dowager Longyu, and on the 27th, it ordered the flag to be lowered to half-mast for three days, and civil and military officials were coming. In addition to lowering its flags to half-mast, the Senate suspended its meeting for one day on February 26 to express its condolences. Military and political leaders from across the country called to temporarily reside in the Forbidden City to express their condolences over the passing of Empress Longyu and to send representatives to Beijing for a february 28 memorial service.
The news of Empress Longyu's death was widely reported in major newspapers and periodicals across the country and was highly praised in the comments.
China Daily commented: "After marrying the Guangxu Emperor in her ugly year, she was particularly dissatisfied with Guangxu and was depressed in the deep palace for more than 20 years. She was neither praised nor ridiculed. However, after the abdication of the Qing government, most of the army fell behind, and there will be valuable figures in the history of the republic in the future. "
"Asia Daily" commented: "When Empress Dowager Longyu died, she was not moved by the pro-noble and floating words, and advocated republicanism, which was actually the creation of the Republic of China." On this day of collapse, the people of our five nationalities should mourn with sympathy. ”

Why did Empress Longyu win the respect of the people after her death? Mainly because her performance in the last years of her life was truly impressive.
Empress Longyu's life was really unhappy, because her family was forced to marry into the deep palace, and she became a victim of the discord between her husband and mother-in-law. She could have lived a happy life, married to an ordinary person, and lived a simple life, but unfortunately, because her family was pushed into the deep palace, burying decades of her youth, ruining her best years.
During her 20-year career as empress, Empress Longyu was a superfluous person in the harem, with no real power in her hands. However, her fate was mixed and she was sent to the cusp of the times – after the deaths of the Guangxu Emperor and Empress Dowager Cixi in 1908, the young Emperor Puyi, Empress Longyu and the regent Zaifeng (Puyi's biological father) came to power together. Almost overnight, Empress Dowager Longyu became the most powerful woman after Empress Dowager Cixi.
Unlike Empress Dowager Cixi, Empress Dowager Longyu did not exercise power in the imperial court or control the military. She raised Puyi wholeheartedly, fulfilled her mother's responsibilities, and handed over power to the regent Zaifeng. Unfortunately, Zaifeng was stubborn and conservative, even worse than Empress Dowager Cixi, and he was incapable of controlling officials. In the end, it made a mess of the political situation and intensified the Xinhai Revolution. After the outbreak of the Xinhai Revolution, Zaifeng shirked his responsibilities, resigned as the regent of the Jianguo, and handed over all power to Empress Longyu.
The next step is North-South peace talks. Empress Dowager Longyu had no experience in controlling government power or how to control it, but she was able to follow the trend of the times. In the course of the North-South peace talks, she did not adopt a tough attitude or take any measures to make the process of the North-South peace talks relatively smooth on the whole.
When the last emperor abdicated and the Qing Dynasty fell, Empress Longyu calmly accepted everything and did not want to blame anyone. She said to the princes and ministers around her, "I will see King Qing (Prince Qing) and so on." The emperor was very young then, and he will not blame you when he is old in the future. It was all my idea... I'm not talking about my family. As long as the world is peaceful. "
This means that Empress Dowager Longyu herself has taken on all the responsibilities, embodying the spirit of responsibility that a political figure should have, and I am afraid that even Empress Dowager Cixi will be ashamed of this.
In general, Empress Longyu followed the trend of the times, promoted the abdication of the Qing Emperor, and completed the collapse of the Qing Dynasty in a very peaceful way. It was also the mildest change of dynasties in history. As soon as you enter Houmen, it is as deep as the sea. Since then, high walls and red tiles have locked your youth, making it impossible for you to move and escape.
