As the footsteps of the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics approach, a bright red atmosphere of domestically developed snowmobile has received people's attention and praise. It is the first domestically produced snowmobile jointly developed and manufactured by China FAW and China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation.

At the Hongqi Craftsman Innovation Studio of China FAW R&D Institute, senior technician Guo Huawei held a smooth and shiny ice knife and said that the production of snowmobile ice knives by one millimeter would affect the speed, so they did 16 tests on the samples alone in 2 months.

Guo Huawei: Traditional processes have a large amount of deformation when processing ice knives. An initial deformation of 1.5 mm and a blade direction of 0.6 mm cannot meet the needs of actual verification. So we created the deformation hedging method. In addition, we have designed a set of integrated positioning fixtures for the multi-functional area. This can ensure that the deformation of the ice blade is within 0.1 mm, and the processing efficiency can be much higher than that of ordinary traditional processes.

Fan Guoquan, senior director of the Trial Production Institute of FAW R&D General Institute, said that in the R&D team, many people are like Guo Huawei for the first time to contact snowmobile manufacturing, and many technical research and development work is from scratch.

Fan Guoquan: More than 80% of our welds are automatic welding, which can ensure the quality of welding. Before welding, we did a lot of test pieces, groped for welding process parameters, and finally qualified before we went to weld.

Fei Erwei, senior director of the Chassis Development Institute, said that the design concept of the car module is now used on the snowmobile, and under the premise of ensuring the best performance as much as possible, the generalization of the two-person snowmobile and the four-person snowmobile is guaranteed to the greatest extent, reducing the difficulty of subsequent production and manufacturing and national team maintenance. We also use CAE simulation analysis to ensure the structural strength of the whole vehicle, and vehicle dynamics calculation to ensure the straight-forward stability and steering flexibility of the snowmobile. The performance of the whole vehicle is achieved to the extreme.

From the official establishment of the project on March 20 to the smooth delivery of the prototype on September 10, the snowmobile research and development team took less than 6 months to achieve a "breakthrough of zero" for domestic snowmobiles. Yang Wenli, senior director of the project management department of China FAW R&D Institute, introduced that the whole process can be said to be the successful "cross-border" circle of China FAW.

Yang Wenli: In the past, we did cars, and snowmobiles as competitive sports have never been exposed. In this process, we first conducted interviews on all aspects of the use of the snowmobile around the athletes, coaches and team leaders, and finally decomposed into 3 large scenes, 10 small scenes, 46 functional requirements and 26 performance requirements according to our engineering development method, so that the development task was completed through rapid iteration through computer simulation. We have applied for more than 80 patents.
