Michael Ryan also said that what people are doing now is to reduce the incidence and maximize the vaccination of all people, which requires a more equitable distribution of vaccines. To date, more than half of the world's population has received two doses of COVID-19 vaccine, but in the African region, that number is only 7 percent.

The weekly epidemiological report on new crown pneumonia released by the WHO on the 18th pointed out that last week, that is, from January 10 to 16, the number of new confirmed cases of new crown pneumonia in the world exceeded 18 million, an increase of 20% over the previous week, and the number of new confirmed cases in some countries seems to have reached a peak. With the exception of the African region, there was an increase in new confirmed cases in all regions, with the largest increase in the South-East Asia region, which increased by 145% from the previous week. The five countries that reported the most cases last week were the United States, France, India, Italy and the United Kingdom.
