Evidence + technology, traditional culture adds visual impact

In 2021, many people remember Henan Satellite TV's "China Festival Series". The Spring Festival "Tang Palace Night Banquet", the Lantern Festival "Furong Pond", the Dragon Boat Festival "Roselle Water Endowment", etc., jointly shaped the reputation of the series of evenings. Among them, what touched a Henan netizen the most was the "Dragon Gate King Kong" program launched at the evening party of Henan Satellite TV's "Qixi Wonderful Tour": for the compatriots who have just experienced a rainstorm, the beautiful meaning of "Leaping Dragon Gate" and the sense of strength of the statue of King Kong Lux are the most inspiring. This is also the original intention of the main creative team. Li Peng, one of the general directors and visual director of "Qixi Fantastic Tour", said that he hopes that the content of the evening will not only be entertainment, but based on the vast traditional culture and give more spiritual resonance to contemporary audiences.

Longmen Grottoes is the world's largest statue and largest stone carving art cultural heritage. "There is a starry universe in the elements of Tanabata, so when it was decided to use the Longmen Grottoes as the subject of shooting, the flying sky was first thought of." Li Peng introduced. The image of the flying sky in Dunhuang art is well known, and the Longmen flying sky is similar in age and style, but it is rarely presented in film and television or stage works, and people are relatively unfamiliar with the image of King Kong in the Longmen Grottoes. In this creation, the team chose the images of Feitian and King Kong Lux as the carrier, deliberately breaking through the inertial cognition of the public and focusing on shaping the unique artistic image of Longmen.

To this end, the main creative staff has comprehensively sorted out the vivid and diverse artistic shapes in the Longmen Grottoes. "We consulted experts, read and studied a large number of classics, and deeply understood the image of Longmen Grottoes' and grasped the characteristics of Longmen Grottoes' different from the Yungang Grottoes and Dunhuang murals, it is more 'Sinicized', more simple and powerful." Li Peng said that on this basis, the team further carried out artistic processing and choreographed into dances, so that "when each shape is frozen, the posture is evidenced in the Longmen Grottoes, and the prototype can be found."

At the same time, the team continued the acclaimed "traditional culture + modern technology" route, and innovatively used many visual effects technologies to "restore" the former glory of cultural relics. In order to create an impactful overall atmosphere on the post-visual packaging, the team chose the scheme of "virtual reality", some shots strictly abide by the relevant provisions of the "Cultural Relics Protection Law", shooting in the Longmen Grottoes scenic spot, and the other part is synthesized by computer.

"We used an aerial camera to collect the Longmen Grottoes from multiple angles, and then replaced the textures and repaired the defects on the 3D model." Li Peng said that this technology is currently more commonly used in the restoration of cultural relics, but it may be the first time in the film and television field, it is similar to the "scanning" of the statues in the Longmen Grottoes, and the reduction of the scene is more accurate.

At the end of "Dragon Gate King Kong", the stone statue is rejuvenated, as if time has flown back for thousands of years. Li Peng said that they hope to use this "Easter egg" to convey the concept of inheriting excellent traditional culture, "historical relics carry the collective memory, connect the past, but also connect the future."
