The predecessor of the Huaye 7th Column was the 3rd Detachment of the New Fourth Army, which was combined with three guerrilla units in 1938 and commanded by Zhang Yunyi, and in 1941, it was merged with other units to form the 7th Division of the New Fourth Army, creating the Chao (Hu) Wu (Wei) Base Area and opening up the Han (Shan) and (County) Tong (Cheng) East Guerrilla Base Areas. In October 1945, he went to Lunan and successively participated in the battles of Lincheng and Zaozhuang.
In 1946, it was renamed the 7th Division of the Shandong Field Army and participated in the operations of Chaoyangji, Sixian and Huaiyin. In October, the 7th Division headquarters led the 19th Brigade to merge with the 11th Column of the Central China Field Army, called the 7th Division, with Cheng Jun as the division commander. Participated in the Battle of Lianshui and the Battle of Subei. In 1947, it was reorganized into the 7th Column of the East China Field Army, and moved to Luzhong, where it participated in the battles of Laiwu, Menglianggu and Linqu.
