Global electric vehicle sales will grow 101% to 6.31 million units in 2021

According to DIGIMIES, the shared modular platform allows automakers to produce electric vehicle models in a cost-effective and time-saving manner. According to data compiled by DIGIMIES Research, more than 30 new electric vehicle models are expected to appear in Europe in 2022 and 2023, and more than 100 electric vehicle models in the US market by 2026.

BMW said it will launch a new EV series based on its Neue Klasse modular platform in 2025. Toyota created a new platform called the E3 to differentiate it from the e-TNGA. Hyundai has done the Iwaiq series on the E-GMP; the Volkswagen Group will launch 27 new EV models on its MEB platform this year.

In the U.S., GM's Ultium has been adopted by other automakers such as Nikola and Honda, while Ford says it will launch two modular platforms in 2025. The shared platform CMF-EV was jointly developed by Renault, Nissan and Mitsubishi.

Most established automakers have created their own platforms to maintain the originality of their designs and features, while startups tend to join some shared platforms. The sharing platform also attracts non-automotive suppliers, such as electronics suppliers who want to have a place in the electric vehicle market.
