On August 13, 1937, the Battle of Songhu broke out, marking the full beginning of the War of Resistance Against Japan, and the Kuomintang, as the main force, fought a fierce battle with the Japanese army in Shanghai at that time. Although it ultimately failed and Shanghai was forced to fall, China's stubborn resistance and indomitable resistance struck a large blow to Japan's arrogance and crushed their plan to destroy China in three months.
At the Battle of Songhu, Yu Deyuan of the 88th Division was given an eight-pound knife, a machine gun, and six grenades. In the fierce battle with japan, Yu Deyuan quickly ran out of grenades, and the bullets were gone. Relying on a large number of aircraft, tanks and artillery, the Japanese inflicted heavy losses on the Kuomintang. Seeing that the position was taken away again and again, 17-year-old Yu Deyuan shouted unwillingly, and then took out his 8-pound knife and prepared to fight with the Japanese.
Although his left leg and neck were hit by bullets, Yu Deyuan still ignored the physical pain, picked up a large knife and fought hard, one knife at a time, and finally killed 13 Japanese soldiers in one breath. Looking at Yu Deyuan, who had already killed the red-eyed, the Japanese were frightened and began to retreat one after another, not daring to come forward again.
Yu Deyuan's performance in this battle earned him the title of "God of Swords", and for Japanese soldiers, he was synonymous with "God of Death". Happily, Yu Deyuan walked through the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression in the Southern Expedition and the Northern War, and finally lived to the age of 90. Later, after the end of the war, Yu Deyuan always remembered the War of Resistance Against Japan, and he once said that our history cannot be forgotten in the slightest, and forgetting is equivalent to betrayal.
