The ancient tomb is surrounded by four great divine beasts of green dragon, white tiger, suzaku and xuanwu, which is what we usually think of as the five elements. Because it was found at the foot of the Blood Wei Mountain in Dulan County, Qinghai Province, archaeologists named it "Blood Wei No. 1 Tomb", but the locals called it the nine-story demon tower.
Origin of the Demon Tower
When it comes to the name of the nine-story demon tower, it is necessary to introduce it from two aspects. From a geographical point of view, there are two mountains behind the tomb that stretch from the east and west directions, like two dragons, and the tomb is like a jewel sitting in the middle of the mountain range, which just constitutes the trend of "two dragon play beads", which is similar to the Chinese feng shui theory.
Secondly, from the perspective of the structure of the tomb itself, the tomb itself has nine floors, coupled with the horror rumors about the tomb among the local Tibetans, and then the continuous supernatural events, so the locals regard it as a monster sealed inside, and call it the "Nine-Story Demon Tower".
2018 Blood Wei No. 1 tomb is called a large tomb, the tomb is divided into two parts above ground and underground, the above ground part is mainly a sacrificial building, the underground part is mainly a burial chamber, and the tomb sits north to south, 33 meters high, 55 meters long from east to west, 37 meters wide from north to south, this construction form and style is unprecedented in China's archaeological discoveries.
At the same time, its structure is very similar to the pyramid of the Ten Wonders of Mankind, and the overall appearance is very similar to the word "gold", which can be said to be the "Pyramid of the East". The 2018 Blood Wei No. 1 Tomb is the most spectacular, most complete structure and clearest high-grade tomb in the Dulan Ancient Hot Water Tomb Group in Qinghai, which is magical, so it has not been fully excavated and is called one of the major discoveries of "Archaeological China". According to the excavated cultural relics, the tomb is the first tomb of the Tuguhun royal family in the early Tang Dynasty found in China.
Legend has it that the two most powerful tribes in the northwest at that time, Tubo and Tuguhun, fought over territory, and Tuguhun failed.
While cleaning the battlefield, Tubo buried the soldiers and soldiers who died in battle in this place, and asked the mage to lock the undead in the nine-story demon tower. According to local elders, there were villagers who turned into a corpse after going out at night, which led to the fact that the surrounding villagers still did not dare to go out at night.
There are more than a hundred caves around the Tomb of Blood Wei No. 1, such a huge group of ancient tombs, the tomb must contain a large number of valuable treasures to be excavated, but after the news of the ancient tomb in Qinghai came out, tomb robbers rushed to this place to carry out crazy excavations, and some people directly drove excavators to excavate the tomb, resulting in hundreds of tombs around the Blood Wei No. 1 Tomb being damaged to varying degrees, but the Blood Wei No. 1 Tomb has been relatively well preserved.
Ma Jiajun robbed the tomb
Legend has it that in 1940, Ma Bufang, the leader of the Ma family army, ruled the northwest, and he was a man who never believed in ghosts and gods. At that time, a lieutenant of Ma Jiajun discovered the current Tomb of Blood Wei No. 1 and reported it to Ma Bufang, so Ma Bufang took someone to excavate it.
They found a large amount of gold and silver treasure from the first layer, but when cleaning up the animal bones in the second layer, soldiers in the army began to kill each other, and people were suddenly panicked. According to locals, when ma jiajun was hastily withdrawn from the tomb, the gold and silver treasures in the tomb were not transported, and the panicked Tibetans reburied the excavated tomb after Ma Jiajun left.
In 2018, the theft of the hot water tomb group was sensational, and the Blood Wei No. 1 tomb reappeared in front of the eyes of the world, and the relevant research institutes immediately jointly set up a special archaeological team to carry out rescue excavations of the ancient tombs. Excavations on the first and second floors went smoothly, and in October 2020, archaeologists found a rare golden elephant in the cemetery.
Not only that, the elephant is also inlaid with turquoise, and what makes the experts even more excited is that in the surrounding space of less than one square meter, there are all kinds of treasures, such as small and exquisite crystal turquoise, luxurious and elegant gold cups, richly patterned silk fabrics, gold jewelry with turquoise and other cultural relics with strong national colors.
Experts continued to expand the scope of the cleanup, finding an upside-down bronze vessel on the west side of the burial chamber, and it was still multi-layered but due to its serious mineralization, how to extract it was difficult for the archaeologists. But what was surprising was that the archaeologists accidentally found a small copper bell with copper gilding, and in order to better protect the cultural relics, the experts decided to reinforce the found bronze with menthol, and extract the top layer and send it to the restoration room for subsequent restoration.
Continue to clean the soil around the bronze, found some stones, simply pieced together found that it is a stone ding, with the stone as the ding, which is not common in the archaeological community, after careful cleaning by the scientific expedition team finally these containers are all extracted and sent to the cultural relics restoration room for subsequent restoration.
Strange heavy rain
In the subsequent excavation process, there was a heavy rain that had not been encountered in a hundred years, and after the heavy rain, five obvious water marks appeared in the burial chamber. Relevant experts judged that there was something underneath, so they dug down along the water marks, revealing five burial ditches, in which 87 war horses were buried alive, and the bones were extremely complete.
Subsequently, a large number of animal remains such as funerary horses, cattle, sheep and other animals were unearthed one after another, so many skeletons could not help but be worried by experts, is this really the legendary nine-story demon tower that seals demons and ghosts? Judging from the skeleton of the war horse, these are all extremely precious sweat and blood BMWs in ancient times.
In the subsequent excavation, a large number of gold objects were found, with changeable shapes and exquisite shapes, and textiles with hidden important information were found under the goldware, and experts proposed little by little, when they turned the textiles in reverse, everyone was surprised, just or inconspicuous gray, instantly revealed gold.
Excavations continue to be carried out, and more and more cultural relics are unearthed, but it is necessary to know that the more cultural relics unearthed, the more mysteries there are. Although archaeologists have excavated for three years, they have only excavated one or two layers, including many very rare and precious historical artifacts.
The excavations from tomb No. 1 prove that during the Southern Dynasty and the Sui and Tang Dynasties, Qinghai, where the tombs were located, was an important trunk line in the Silk Road, and Dulan was an important transit point for communication between The East and the West, a discovery of great significance for the study of Chinese history.
High-grade tombs
Moreover, as the most complete structure and clear system of high-grade tombs found on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau so far, the excavation of the tomb is bound to have important value for the study of related issues such as the Silk Road route and material cultural exchanges. I believe that there must be more valuable artifacts in the last few layers, but archaeologists only dug the second layer and did not dig, why is this?
Now there are two explanations, one is that the burial chamber structure of the Blood Wei No. 1 Tomb is very peculiar, and the current tomb excavation technology is likely to cause some damage to the burial chamber to a certain extent.
And the following risk factor is not known, if the blind excavation, because the support of the tomb is wood, it is easy to cause collapse, which will not only pose a threat to the safety of archaeologists, but also most likely cause damage to the cultural relics in the tomb.
Although people cannot understand the true face of the tomb at this stage, it is more important to protect the cultural relics. The other is the continuous occurrence of supernatural events, and the local Tibetans have tried their best to prevent archaeologists from continuing to dig, they believe that this is the tower that seals the monster, and the appearance of the supernatural event is a warning to the world, of course, this is also an unverified thing.
But no matter what, one day, the true face of the Nine-Story Demon Tower that we think of as the Blood Wei No. 1 Tomb will be revealed in front of the world.
