German federal cybersecurity regulator: No evidence was found that Xiaomi phones have a "censorship" feature

According to Reuters, Germany's federal cybersecurity regulator (BSI) said on January 13 that there was no evidence that mobile phones produced by Chinese Xiaomi had a "censorship" function. A spokesman said: "The Bureau has not found any unusual circumstances that require further investigation or other countermeasures. ”

Last September, the National Cybersecurity Center of Lithuania's Ministry of National Defense concocted a so-called "product investigation report" claiming that Xiaomi's flagship phones sold in Europe had built-in detection and censorship capabilities capable of detecting sensitive words that violated the "one China" principle.

The report also mentioned that after investigating the three mobile phones of Xiaomi, Huawei and OnePlus, 3 so-called "potential risks" were found on Xiaomi devices, 1 Huawei P40 mobile phone, and no network security vulnerabilities were found on OnePlus devices.

It was after the report was issued that Germany began to follow up the investigation.

A Xiaomi spokesperson responded to a report from Lithuania on September 22 last year: "Xiaomi has never, and will never restrict or block any personal behavior of users, such as searching, calling, browsing the web or using third-party communication software." It also said that Xiaomi "will not review users' communication information" and "fully respect and protect the legal rights of all users", adding that Xiaomi mobile phones comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
