Story Seventy-Seven:

During the reign of Emperor Dezong of Tang, Li Bi was the prime minister. Emperor Dezong wanted to depose the crown prince because of the affairs of the crown prince's mother, Princess Gaoguo. Therefore, he summoned Li Bi and said to him, "King Shu's nephew Shu has grown up, and he is very filial and friendly to his brothers, and he is also gentle and benevolent. Li Bi said to Emperor Dezong, "Your Majesty has only one son, so why do you want to depose him and make your nephew crown prince?" Moreover, His Majesty could not even trust his own son, let alone a nephew? Although King Shu is very filial, His Majesty should also know more about the Prince, and do not expect King Shu to be filial to His Majesty in the future. ”

Emperor Dezong said, "Doesn't Qing love his own family?" Li Bi replied, "The subject loves his own family, so he does not dare not do his best." If you obey Your Majesty because you are afraid that Your Majesty will be angry, your Majesty will regret it tomorrow, and he will surely blame the minister and say, 'I left you alone as prime minister, and you did not try your best to advise at that time, which led to the development of things as they are now.' 'Your Majesty will surely kill me.' The subject is already old, and there is nothing to be sorry about when he dies. If Your Majesty has wrongfully killed my son, then I will only have my nephew as my heir, and I don't know, will I be able to enjoy their sacrifice to me? So I cried bitterly.

Dezong also wept with him, and said, "Things have reached this point, so what should we do?" Li Bi said: "This is a major matter, and his majesty should think carefully about it; since ancient times, fathers and sons have suspected each other, and no country has not perished." Emperor Dezong said, "During the years of Zhenguan and Kaiyuan, they all changed crown princes, so why didn't they perish?" Li Bi replied, "The rebellion of Crown Prince Li Chengqian has already been discovered by Emperor Taizong in advance. Therefore, Emperor Taizong had no choice but to depose the crown prince and depose Li Tai, the prince of Wei, who was suspected of taking the crown prince's position. As for Concubine Wu Huifei during the Xuanzong period, who designed to frame the crown prince Li Ying and her brothers Li Yao and Li Ju, and aroused the indignation of the people in the sea, these are all things that should be learned from after a hundred generations, so how can they be emulated? The courtier asked His Majesty to think calmly for three days and to think clearly about the reasons why the crown prince was deposed, so that His Majesty would also understand that the prince did not have any ill intentions. If the crown prince really has a problem, please ask His Majesty to follow the example of Emperor Taizong and depose King Shu at the same time, and make the emperor and grandson the crown prince, then after a hundred generations, the world will still be owned by His Majesty's descendants. If Yang Su, Xu Zong, Li Linfu, and others knew what His Majesty meant, they would advise His Majesty to make King Shu crown prince. ”

Emperor Dezong said, "Ai Qing is sincere, so he will postpone this matter until tomorrow, and wait until he thinks about it carefully." Li Bi also said, "If this is the case, the subject believes that His Majesty will be able to return to the original fatherly kindness and filial piety with the crown prince." However, His Majesty can just think about it himself, and he cannot reveal this meaning to those on the left and the right. Once it was revealed, I was afraid that those who wanted to make meritorious contributions in front of King Shu would do something to harm the prince. A day later, Emperor Dezong summoned Li Bi alone at the Yanying Palace, and said to Li Bi with tears in his eyes: "If it were not for Aiqing's sincere advice, I am afraid that I would have regretted it today." The prince was kind and filial, and indeed did not have the slightest disagreement. Li Biyi served four emperors (Tang Xuanzong, Tang Suzong, Tang Dynasty, and Tang Dezong), and was a famous chancellor of the Tang Dynasty, who later became a god.

Story Seventy-Eight:

During the Tang Dynasty, Wei Zheng, the prime minister, was a loyal vassal who had both courage and strategy, and was good at redeeming the monarch's inappropriate decisions. However, he did not know that Wei Zheng had already seen it, and Wei Zheng did not want Emperor Taizong's playthings to lose his mind. Therefore, when he played things to Emperor Taizong, he deliberately delayed time. By the time Wei zheng had left, when Emperor Taizong took the harrier from his arms, the harrier had already suffocated and died.

Later, when Empress Wende passed away, Emperor Taizong of Tang, missing the empress, built a tall building in the imperial garden to facilitate the view of the Tomb of Zhao, where the empress was buried. Emperor Taizong had taken Wei Zheng to the tower with him, and also let Wei Zheng look in the direction of Zhaoling. Wei Zheng pretended to look at it for a while, and then said to Emperor Taizong in a confused manner: "The minister is old, and his old eyes are dizzy and he can't see. Emperor Taizong didn't know what the situation was, so he pointed it out to Wei Zheng. At this time, Wei Zheng said, "The minister thought that His Majesty was letting me look at Emperor Gaozong's tomb, if The Emperor Zhao lingchen had already seen it." ”

After Emperor Taizong heard this, he was moved to tears and later demolished the building. Wei Zheng later advised Emperor Taizong to weaken the development of the military and strengthen the development of culture and education. Later, the country was stable, and the ethnic minorities in the four sides also submitted to the Tang Dynasty. Emperor Taizong adopted Wei Zheng's advice, the Eastern Turkic Jieli Khan was captured alive, and the Turkic chieftain became a sword-bearing bodyguard in the palace. At this time, the Tang Dynasty was very stable and prosperous, and every household did not close at night, and there was no need to prepare dry food when going out, which was the credit of Wei Zheng. Wei Zheng was a famous vassal during the Tang Dynasty and was given the title of Duke of Zheng. His fifth grandson, Wei Wei, later became chancellor.

He also laid down the rules: All prisoners who were reprimanded by Xu Yougong's staff could be reprimanded by xu Yougong. Until the end of his term, he did not rebuke a single prisoner. And, do everything well within your responsibilities. Later, he was promoted to the rank of Criminal Servant, and all the prisoners who were framed by the cool officials would do his best to redress them, so countless people were saved. He often argued with the imperial court for the sake of prison matters.

Empress Wu often angrily interrogated him that Xu Yougong still did not change his look, did not succumb to it, and fought more urgently. Although Empress Wu was easy to kill, she also knew that Xu Yougong was more upright, and even feared him very much. Zhou Xing and others often slandered and framed Xu Yougong in front of Wu Hou. However, Xu Yougong was not even framed by them. Later, he was also promoted to the rank of Imperial Attendant of the Zuotai Hall, and his descendants were also frequently distinguished.
