In the history of our country, there are many humble gentlemen who have chosen to serve the country by example when the nation is in crisis. General Chen Geng was one of them, and he maintained an optimistic revolutionary attitude throughout his life, never being defeated by the difficulties in front of him. During the Long March of the Red Army, there were enemies in the front and pursuing soldiers in the back, and General Chen Geng still used his optimistic attitude to infect the comrades around him.
General Chen Geng was a Confucian general of our army who Chinese and martial arts, and his life was magnificent, and he was never absent from any battle in which our country defended against foreign enemies. From the Northern Expedition to the Nanchang Uprising, from the Long March of the Red Army to the War of Resistance Against Japan, from the War of Liberation to the War of Resistance Against France and Vietnam, the War to Resist us and Aid Korea, there was always General Chen Geng on the front line.
General Chen Geng's military talent is outstanding, and his dedication to righteousness is equally commendable. General Chen Geng graduated from the first phase of the Whampoa Military Academy, and when he attended the military academy, he was praised as the "Whampoa Three Masters". General Chen Geng had a cheerful personality, had a deep friendship with his classmates at that time, and established a sincere friendship with his classmates.
Where can I see this? In the early days, General Chen Geng used to work in Shanghai Special Branch for three years. In 1932, General Chen Geng was betrayed by traitors and arrested by the Kuomintang reactionaries. After the traitor Gu Shunzhang surrendered to the enemy, he came again in a vain attempt to "persuade" General Chen Geng to surrender, and General Chen Geng immediately scolded him.
Gu Shunzhang became angry and ordered that General Chen Geng be severely tortured, and even electrocuted, but did not make General Chen Geng submit. The Kuomintang Huangpu generals, after hearing that General Chen Geng had been arrested, immediately signed a letter to Chiang Kai-shek. In fact, during the Eastern Crusade, General Chen Geng once saved Chiang Kai-shek's life, and Chiang Kai-shek ordered that General Chen Geng be escorted to Nanjing.
As soon as General Chen Geng arrived in Nanjing, his Huangpu classmates came to see him, of course, as lobbyists. They persuaded General Chen Geng to "submit" to the headmaster and give you wealth and glory. General Chen Geng ridiculed his classmates, threw them out, and fell asleep on the sofa.
Soon after, Chiang Kai-shek also came, still to "persuade him to surrender." As soon as Chiang Kai-shek opened his mouth, he said, "Chen Geng! You've lost weight. General Chen Geng did not give Chiang Kai-shek face, but replied directly: "Principal, you are fat, and everyone in the world is thin, so you are fat." Chiang Kai-shek was furious, slammed the door, and ordered his men to take strict care of General Chen Geng.
Later, with the help of the organization, General Chen Geng escaped from the prison of the Kuomintang. After that, during the Red Army period, General Chen Geng led the red army cadre regiment to fight in the Long March. During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, the 386th Brigade led by him made the Japanese feel frightened and even played the slogan of "specializing in the 386th Brigade".
During the Liberation War, General Chen Geng participated in the Battle of Shangdang, the Battle of Southwest Jin, the Battle of Fenxiao, the Battle of Huaihai, the Battle of Crossing the River, and the Battle of Liberating Liangguang. After the founding of New China, General Chen Geng went to Vietnam to support Vietnam's anti-French cause. After the outbreak of the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, General Chen Geng did not rest for a moment and rushed directly to Korea to help General Peng Lao command the battle.
After returning from Korea, General Chen Geng began to set up a military engineering college, which trained a large number of military talents for the modernization of our army. In 1959, China granted amnesty to the first batch of Kuomintang war criminals, including Du Yuming, Wang Yaowu, Zeng Guoqing, Zheng Tingqian, Song Xilian, Yang Botao, Chen Changjie, Qiu Xingxiang, Zhou Zhenqiang, Lu Junquan, and others.
Among them, Du Yuming was the huangpu contemporaneous general of Chen Geng, and in the Battle of Huaihai, Du Yuming was defeated by the People's Liberation Army. On January 10, 1949, Du Yuming prepared to break through and was captured by the People's Liberation Army in Zhanglaozhuang Village, Xiao County. After that, he was sent to the Gongdelin War Criminals Management Center in Beijing to undergo ideological reform.
Wang Yaowu, on the other hand, was a disciple of General Chen Geng and graduated from the Whampoa Phase III. In 1948, during the Battle of Jinan, Wang Yaowu led his troops to defend Jinan. General Su Yu led his troops to launch the Battle of Jinan, with General Xu Shiyou taking on the main offensive task and eventually liberating the city of Jinan. Disguised, Wang Yaowu prepared to flee back to his hometown, where he was captured by our army in the Shouguang area and also sent to the Gongdelin War Criminals Management Center in Beijing.
Wang Yaowu and Du Yuming were professional soldiers, they were meritorious in the anti-Japanese battlefield, and during the Liberation War, they also obeyed Chiang Kai-shek's orders. After they entered the war criminals management center, they saw the People's Liberation Army, which was loved by the people, and they reflected on the crimes of the Kuomintang reactionaries. In particular, after the victory in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, they felt the greatness of New China even more and seriously accepted ideological transformation.
In 1959, China granted amnesty to the first batch of Kuomintang war criminals. Because of the outstanding performance of Du Yuming and Wang Yaowu, the first batch of amnesty was granted to them, and the state properly arranged their lives and work. During the imprisonment of Du Yuming and Wang Yaowu and others, General Chen Geng visited them at the war criminals management center, cared about their lives, and used his own salary to bring them daily necessities.
In 1960, General Chen Geng invited Du Yuming and Wang Yaowu to dinner, and at that time someone persuaded General Chen Geng to say: "Be cautious, or it is better not to invite dinner." General Chen Geng did not speak, insisted on his own opinion, and invited several of his pardoned classmates to dinner at his own expense.
During the banquet, General Chen Geng and Du Yuming, Wang Yaowu and others chatted freely about the years of the Northern Expedition. At the beginning, they were all young people with the ambition to serve the country, following Mr. Sun's revolutionary ideas and fighting to overthrow the old warlords. Now they are all citizens of new China, embarking on their respective jobs and making contributions to New China.
In this way, several people chatted for three hours, lamenting the past years and looking forward to the future of a better life. Wang Yaowu sighed at that time, and couldn't help but shed tears for everyone's decades of classmate love. In the winter of 1960, General Chen Geng suddenly fainted from a myocardial infarction while inspecting a national defense research project. In March 1961, General Chen Geng passed away, and when Du Yuming and Wang Yaowu heard the news, they both covered their faces and wept bitterly, remembering their old classmates who cherished love and righteousness.
