The story begins in 1926, when Peking University was unable to pay the salaries of teachers on time because of insufficient funds, including Lu Xun, and Lin Yutang of Xiamen University, after learning of this situation, immediately sent Lu Xun the past 500 yuan of ocean, and promised to give Lu Xun a monthly salary of 400 yuan, which was a large amount at that time.
Seeing that the family's situation was getting more and more embarrassing, Lu Xun accepted Lin Yutang's invitation to teach at Xiamen University, where Lu Xun met a student named Liao Li'e, who admired Mr. Lu Xun very much, and would ask him for advice as long as he had time, and even brought Lu Xun a little gift from time to time, which made Lu Xun's impression of him quite good.

In order to let Lu Xun continue to provide him with tuition, Liao Li'e read aloud in the room every day, creating a look that he loved to learn, and Lu Xun, who had always cherished talents, was very satisfied. Later, Liao Li'e also proposed to let Lu Xun help him find something to do, Lu Xun did not say anything, he asked his friend Yu Dafu to help Liao Li'e find something to do in the "modern bookstore", Lu Xun said that he would take out 30 yuan per month as Liao Li'e's "salary", and let him read more books in the bookstore on weekdays, which can be described as well-intentioned.
As a result, Liao Li'e did not want to do things at all, and even did not want to stay in the bookstore all day to read, so he resigned on the grounds of "too little salary and too low position", Lu Xun was very speechless, but helpless, and after a few months, watching Lu Xun's family's life become more and more difficult, Liao Li'e felt that such a life was not interesting, so he planned to return to his hometown, but before leaving, he decided to "blackmail" Lu Xun.
