As the war progressed on June 18, the Japanese army suddenly announced the disbandment of the nurses' team, leaving the female students to "fend for themselves.". The schoolgirls, who didn't know how to dodge the gunfire, were killed in the first two days of disbandment. The most tragic scene occurred in the army's second surgical trench, when there were more than 100 people in the cave, including forty or fifty nurses of "Himeyuri", and of course, some recalcitrant Japanese troops. When the U.S. military asked the people in the cave to surrender without responding, they blocked the cave with flamethrowers, causing more than 80 people to suffocate and die on the spot, only 1 teacher and 7 students escaped, and two more students were shot on the spot after leaving the cave.
Almost all of the more than 200 people in "Ji Lily" died on the battlefield, all of them were flower girls, which was really unbearable to see! After World War II, the japanese people of Okinawa established the Tower of Himeyuri and its annexed Himeyuri Peace Memorial Museum in Okinawa. The story of "Hime Yuri" was written in books and made into a movie. The Japanese rock band TheBoom wrote the famous "Island Song" after visiting the Tower of The Lyulys.
