In the rapid development of the smart phone industry for more than a decade, Qualcomm, located in the upstream of the industrial chain, has always maintained a strong incremental style and has been in the position of hegemony in the chip industry.
Especially after the chip rule change, the industry agrees that Qualcomm's strength in the field of mobile phone chips will be enhanced again, but embarrassing things suddenly happened, and the sudden rise of MediaTek made Qualcomm completely lose its dominant position in the mobile phone chip market.
Ranked first in China for consecutive years
On January 6, fast technology news, the well-known market research agency CINNO Research released the November 2021 China smartphone chip market research data, the domestic chip dark horse once again beat Qualcomm, with a good result of monthly sales of 8.6 million chips, once again the first in China's chip market.
In contrast, Huawei HiSilicon, which is limited by chip rules, has extremely dismal chip sales, with sales of only 1.1 million units in November.
A rough estimate is that MediaTek's sales in November can reach 8 Huawei HiSilicon.
So, why can MediaTek surpass Qualcomm?
As we all know, Qualcomm has a high influence in the field of mobile phone chips, and almost all mobile phone brands will have a certain cooperative relationship with Qualcomm.
In contrast, MediaTek has been labeled as "cottage" and "low-end" in the 3G and 4G eras, and its real rise is in the early stage of the 5G era.
Therefore, in contrast, whether in terms of brand influence or technical strength, there is a large gap between MediaTek and Qualcomm.
However, the rise of MediaTek has caught Qualcomm a bit off guard, and from 2020 to November 2021, MediaTek's strength in the chip market is also getting stronger.
The reason why MediaTek surpassed Qualcomm in china's mobile phone chip market is mainly because domestic mobile phone manufacturers collectively withdrew.
In the past, Xiaomi and OV were undoubtedly Qualcomm's loyal customer groups, and almost every generation of products would be equipped with Qualcomm's high-end flagship chips.
Nowadays, in order to reduce the dependence of domestic mobile phone manufacturers on Qualcomm, they collectively choose to focus more products on MediaTek, and careful readers can find that in the past 2021, the new products released by domestic mobile phone manufacturers, the probability of using MediaTek chips is getting higher and higher, and many mobile phones equipped with MediaTek chips have become the best-selling explosive models on the market.
It is precisely because of the support of domestic mobile phone manufacturers that MediaTek will win the first place in the Chinese smartphone chip market many times.
Although in November, Qualcomm's chip sales also reached 8.4 million, and the gap with MediaTek is not large, but MediaTek is making full efforts, I am afraid that Qualcomm will be difficult to overcome in the future.
According to the author's understanding, 2022 will be a year for MediaTek to impact the high-end chip market, launched a new generation of Tianji 9000 chips, from the market feedback data, this chip and Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 flagship processor is on an equal footing, both using 4nm process, Antu rabbit running score of more than 1 million.
There is no doubt that MediaTek's launch of high-end flagship processors is bound to impact Qualcomm's position in the chip field again, and Xiaomi, vivo, OPPO and Glory have clearly stated that they have taken a stand in line with MediaTek Tianji 9000.
More critically, MediaTek's Tianji chips have always been more advantageous in terms of price, which can also help mobile phone manufacturers launch cost-effective mobile phone products.
In the author's opinion, Qualcomm wants to turn over again, I am afraid it is a little difficult, because MediaTek's momentum is too fierce, coupled with the support of domestic mobile phone manufacturers, it is expected that in 2022, Qualcomm's high-end mobile phone chip market may not be guaranteed.
Write to the end
The rise of MediaTek is undoubtedly good news for domestic mobile phone manufacturers, not only successfully restricting Qualcomm's position as the hegemon of the mobile phone chip market, but also allowing mobile phone manufacturers to have more chip options to avoid high dependence on Qualcomm.
So, do you think MediaTek will be firmly in the position of chip overlord?
