Qualcomm: Thanks to Samsung, Xiaomi, OV, Honor, mobile phone chip revenue rose 56%

Yesterday, mobile phone chip giant Qualcomm released the first quarter of 2022 reports.

According to the data, Qualcomm's revenue in the quarter was $11.158 billion, a sharp increase of 41%, setting a new revenue record. The profit was 29.34%, a sharp increase of 67%.

For the second quarter, Qualcomm's expectations are also very optimistic, believing that revenue is between $10.5 billion and $11.3 billion, an increase of at least 30% year-on-year.

From the perspective of Qualcomm's revenue, QTL (patent licensing business) revenue was 1.58 billion US dollars, and the pre-tax profit margin reached 75%, that is, the pre-tax profit reached 1.185 billion US dollars, which shows that the licensing business is really profitable.

QCT, the chip business, had revenue of $9.548 billion, up 53% year-on-year, profit before tax (EBT) increased 111% year-on-year to $3.34 billion, and pretax margin increased by 10 percentage points year-on-year to 35%, setting a new record.

Qualcomm: Thanks to Samsung, Xiaomi, OV, Honor, mobile phone chip revenue rose 56%

From the perspective of QCT's specific business, the revenue of mobile phone chips increased by 56% year-on-year to $6.325 billion, accounting for 66%. RF chip business revenue of $1.16 billion increased 28% year-over-year. Automotive chips were $339 million, up 41 percent year-over-year, while IoT chips were $1.724 billion, up 61 percent year-over-year.

For the next 2 quarters, Qualcomm predicts that the revenue of the QCT business will be between $9.1 billion and $9.6 billion, because although mobile phone sales are slowing, high-end mobile phones have not been affected at present, and Qualcomm has no opponents in high-end mobile phone chips.

Qualcomm also said that at present, Samsung, Xiaomi, OPPO, VIVO, and Honor are using Qualcomm's chips in large quantities, thanks to these manufacturers.

In fact, in 2021, Qualcomm's revenue also increased by 53.4%, ranking the world's fifth largest semiconductor company in terms of revenue. Behind this, it is also because Samsung, Xiaomi, OV, Honor and other manufacturers have purchased Qualcomm's chips in large quantities.

I have to say that after Huawei was suppressed, Qualcomm really made a lot of money, because if Huawei's Kirin chip is still there, Huawei's mobile phones are still selling well, Huawei and Honor will basically not use Qualcomm chips, Qualcomm chips will not be able to take such a large market share, and revenue will not increase so sharply.
