Ming Dynasty Tombs

The Ming Tombs are the largest imperial mausoleum in the world, with a total area of more than 120 square kilometers, and are completely imitated from the imperial palace at that time, which is larger than the capital of the Ming Dynasty at that time, Beijing. In the spring of 1959, the archaeological team began a secret investigation of the Ming Tombs. In fact, the first target of the experts was not Dingling but Changling.

The builder of this mausoleum is Ming Chengzu Zhu Di. Zhu Di had a big battle with Zhu Yunjiao in the name of the Qing Emperor's side, and after a bloody war, he successfully sat on this coveted throne. After he succeeded to the throne, he chose to move the capital to Beijing, and he built the imperial palace at the same time as building his own posthumous mausoleum. At this time, the first mausoleum in the Thirteen Tombs was built, the Changling Tomb.

Archaeologists speculated that the funerary items in Changling must be of extremely high value, so they put all their energy into excavating the mausoleum, but the progress was not particularly smooth, and they did not find any valuable excavation clues, so in the end they could only choose to abandon the excavation plan for Changling.

Finally found the 13th emperor of the Ming Dynasty is the Wanli Emperor Zhu Yijun's mausoleum Dingling, during the investigation, experts found that there are signs of collapse on a wall outside the Dingling, the entrance to the mausoleum should be it, archaeologists immediately began to excavate.

Excavation of the Dingling Tomb began

In May 1956, archaeologists dug the first ditch of Dingling Tomb, and when they dug more than a meter deep, they found a stone strip on the wall with three big characters engraved on it, the tunnel door, which made the archaeologists more confident. After that, they continued to dig and dig again.

A dozen days later, a stone scroll door appeared in front of the experts, and two brick walls were found on both sides of the roll door, forming a tunnel between the two brick walls, and the experts did not know where the end of the tunnel was. After that, archaeologists excavated a second trench on the basis of the first trench.

They continued to dig, and a long time later, one of them suddenly found that there was a stone stele deep in the trench, on which was carved - this stone diamond wall, 16 meters long and 3.5 battles deep. During the Ming Dynasty, people would call this kind of wall the King Kong Wall, and this stone clearly provided them with a place.

With this clue, the experts quickly dug a third trench. After a lot of hard digging with a lot of time and energy, this diamond wall can be regarded as appearing in front of the eyes of experts. There is a trapezoidal opening above the wall, experts speculate that this should be the entrance to the Dingling Tomb, but obviously found the entrance, but the experts are stopping at the door.

Found the entrance but did not dare to enter

They didn't want to be the first to go in here, plus there was strange weather at this time, the thunder was loud, the clouds were thick, and uneasiness spread in their hearts. Eventually they decided to take apart the top of the trapezoidal opening before the archaeologists were willing to enter it.

After entering, they did not see the traps in the novel, but instead saw a lot of exquisite carvings, and under the illumination of the flashlight, they did not take much effort to find the stone door of this dungeon. The stone door was made of a single piece of white jade, and inside it was a large stone, which was too difficult to break open from the outside.

After some manipulation, the gates of the underground palace were finally opened. The resting place of the ancient emperors was finally presented to the people. It is a huge stone palace with three main halls from the outside to the inside. The place where the emperor lived was the apse. Why do three coffins appear in the apse?

The tomb owner is really face

It turns out that this mausoleum is the joint tomb of the Wanli Emperor and his two empresses, and what is presented to people is the 13th emperor of the Ming Dynasty. After deliberating, they removed the coffins of the three coffins and finally saw his true face. Subsequently, the archaeologists cleaned the funeral items in the coffin layer by layer, and there were too many funerary items here, and it took more than a dozen layers to see the remains of the Wanli Emperor.

On his body was covered with a layer of gold quilt, but because the age was too old, the silk fabric on it had been completely unrecognizable, and the body of the Wanli Emperor had long since decayed, leaving only a dry skeleton lying in the coffin. Experts have cleaned out more than 3,000 cultural relics from this tomb, and a large part of these funerary items came into contact with the air at the moment when the underground palace was opened, and a large amount of damage occurred.

These rare treasures, which have been sealed underground with their owners for more than 400 years, are finally seen again today. Because the archaeology of the Ming Tombs at that time was the most secret, people could not help but think of what archaeologists dug up, so that they did not dare to continue to excavate other imperial tombs, and some excavation experts could not end well for some strange reasons.

It is said that when the excavations were carried out, the thunder was loud and the clouds were thick, as if some unknown being in the imperial tomb was angry. Is there really another world? In June 1958, the state established the Dingning Museum, which was open to the outside world, and the originally uninhabited Ming Tombs also became lively, and countless tourists came here every year to learn about the legendary life of a generation of emperors.
