The strategic position of Burma at that time was very important, and once Burma was lost, the Japanese army could directly attack China from the other side, thus threatening the entire Asian region. In order to end the war as soon as possible and return the world to peace, some countries such as Britain and France also participated in the war, working with the Chinese Expeditionary Force to resist the Japanese invaders.
At that time, the Chinese side sent about 400,000 troops to the Burmese battlefield to fight the Japanese army to the death. Because the road from the Chinese border to the Burmese theater was very difficult to walk, and the materials were relatively scarce, many expeditionary forces were infected with disease. In addition, the expeditionary force also had to fight with the Japanese army in the tropical jungles of Burma, and was always vigilant against the bombing of the Japanese army, which showed that the expeditionary force faced many difficulties at that time.
In this war, the expeditionary forces suffered heavy casualties, sacrificing about 100,000 soldiers. Due to the urgency of the war at that time and the limited conditions, the Chinese martyrs who died could not be returned to China, but could only be buried in the nearest Burmese land. As a result, there are many cemeteries of expeditionary army martyrs in Myanmar. However, Myanmar is an ungrateful country that went on to do something very infuriating to our people.
In order to develop its own economy, Myanmar has razed the graves of hundreds of thousands of Chinese martyrs to the ground and built high-rise buildings here. Although the burmese government's approach at that time was opposed and criticized by people around the world, including a large number of Burmese people, Myanmar still did such a chilling thing despite the opposition of the people. What infuriates our people the most is that the cemeteries of british and French soldiers who sacrificed their lives have not been damaged in the slightest, and the Burmese government has even regularly arranged for people to repair their tombstones. In addition, the tombstones of some Japanese invaders were also protected by the Burmese side. Therefore, Myanmar's move is obviously aimed at China, which greatly hurts the friendship and feelings between the two countries.
