On January 4, the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education issued the "Jiangsu Provincial Compulsory Education Students Homework Management Specification" notice, clarifying that if the student's body and family have special circumstances or the day's homework affects the student's sleep, the student or parent can apply to the teacher for supplementary or exemption.

On January 6, the People's Daily health client called the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, and the staff of the Department of Education said that the specification had been issued and had begun to be implemented.

For the problem of grading homework that parents were concerned about before, Article 8 of the specification pointed out that it is necessary to standardize the requirements for teachers' homework correction, strengthen teachers' face-to-face correction, and encourage the use of comment annotations, symbols and other diversified forms to feedback the effect of homework. At the same time, it is strictly forbidden to require students to self-correct or ask parents to help correct homework.

In terms of reducing the burden of students' homework, the second and seventh articles of the norms make it clear that the total amount of homework should be strictly controlled and the implementation of homework should be optimized. Ensure that there is no written homework assignment in the first and second grades of primary school, the average completion time of written homework in grades three to six of primary schools does not exceed 60 minutes per day, and the average completion time of written homework in junior high schools does not exceed 90 minutes per day. At the same time, it is necessary to respect students and give parents the right to regulate students' work and rest, if the student's body and family have special circumstances, or the day's homework affects the student's sleep, students or parents can apply to the teacher for supplementary or exempt work.

The above-mentioned staff said that the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China promulgated the "Opinions of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council on Further Reducing the Homework Burden and the Burden of Off-campus Training for Students in the Compulsory Education Stage" last year, requiring that the homework burden of students and parents be reduced.
