Hesai Technology/Lumentum reached a partnership to jointly develop next-generation lidar solutions

Recently, we learned from Hesai Technology that Hesai Technology and Lumentum announced a cooperation on semi-solid-state directional lidar solutions for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS).

Hesai Technology/Lumentum reached a partnership to jointly develop next-generation lidar solutions

Lidar is an indispensable core sensing component of autonomous vehicles, and the new generation of lidar design based on VCSEL array light source can greatly improve product integration, reduce the manufacturing cost of lidar and significantly increase the scale of mass production, thereby greatly enhancing the competitiveness of lidar solutions for the ADAS market.

The Hesai AT128 is a vehicle-grade long-range semi-solid-state lidar with a detection range of up to 200 meters at 10% reflectivity, and an ultra-high dot frequency of 1.53 million per second, and its lightweight body can be seamlessly embedded in the body, specially built for ADAS front-loading production. Each AT128 contains 128 VCSEL arrays with an emission wavelength of 905 nm.

Over the years, Lumentum's VCSEL arrays have been widely used in the consumer electronics market and have accumulated experience in shipping in large quantities, and its higher power density multi-junction VCSEL arrays are built on this basis. After years of deep technical cultivation, Hesai has created atAT128, a vehicle-grade lidar with a full-life cycle shipment of millions of years with the help of a mature consumer-grade industrial chain.

At present, Hesai AT128 has obtained a number of OEMs totaling millions of units, and will begin mass production and delivery in 2022.
