Chai Yunzhen was one of the first soldiers of the Chinese Volunteer Army who entered the DPRK; in the case of insufficient supplies in the rear, the PLA fighters wore single clothes and simple weapons and equipment to engage the enemy in close hand-to-hand combat in the ice and snow, and with a tenacious fighting spirit repelled the enemy's attacks again and again.
Chai Yunzhen was later awarded the glorious title of First Class Combat Hero of the People's Liberation Army, and was also awarded the "Order of Freedom and Independence of the First Class" issued by North Korea, after which Chai Qingyun became a famous combat hero in the army, and the martyr Huang Jiguang, who later fought bravely in the Korean War, was also a fan of Chai Yunzhen at this time. According to the old hero's later recollections of that fierce battle, on the battlefield, both the enemy and us killed the red eye, and after killing three American devils, Chai Yunzhen was stopped and fell by an American soldier who sneaked in from behind.
The situation was very critical, the American soldiers picked up a stone and threw it at Chai Yunzhen's head, Chai Yunzhen clasped the eyes of the American soldiers with his hands, the American soldiers could not distinguish the direction of the pain, and bit off Chai Yunzhen's fingers in pain, and in that local battle, Chai Yunzhen's army killed more than 200 enemy troops. After the battle, Chai Yunzhen was transferred to the Baotou Military Hospital for treatment due to his wounds, and since then he has lost contact with the troops, and everyone thought he had died.
In view of Chai Yunzhen's heroic performance, the DPRK side also erected a monument to him and hung his "portrait" in the military museum for 33 years. Later, Chai Yunzhen returned to his hometown, and the state also subsidized 80 yuan and 1,000 kilograms of rice every month, which became the only source of livelihood for Chai Yunzhen's family for a long time. The old hero who returned home has always acted in a very low-key manner, never telling anyone about his heroic deeds, and in the eyes of the masses, he has always been an old party member who shared the worries of the people and was loyal to his duties.
Chai Yunzhen also served as deputy secretary of the commune for a long time after returning to his hometown, he single-mindedly sought happiness for the people, led the people to make a fortune, and quadrupled the income of the people during his tenure as deputy secretary of the commune.
