Dozens of photos were left to record the horrific rainforest disappearance

author:Feng Ren boasted

In the past two years, we all know that there is a documentary program called "Survival in the Wilderness" abroad, which is mainly about an Englishman named Bell who goes to various natural environments to explore and survive, faces various natural threats and difficulties for human beings to challenge, eats insects raw, fights crocodiles, and avoids snakes and leopards. Although most Westerners are full of adventure in their bones, but that is also the case of the show shooting team to ensure safety, the two girls in the case we are going to talk about below are not so lucky.

The plants are dense and the species are abundant, and many of the rainforests have been man-made without interference

On March 29, 2014, two Dutch girls arrived in a small town called Bercett in western Panama. It is a beautiful place with endless mountains and deep rainforests around it. The two girls, roommates who work together, come here for tourism. A girl named Chrissy, a 21-year-old college graduate, has a cheerful personality. Another girl, Lisana, is a 22-year-old volleyball player, physically fit, equally optimistic and cheerful. The two plan to spend 6 weeks in Burkett, playing while volunteering to help local children and learn Panamanian.

Due to their limited funds, the two girls chose to stay in a family hotel. On the morning of April 1, they led the huskies lent to them by the innkeeper on a hike, and in the evening the dogs ran home on their own, but the two did not return. On the morning of April 2, a local guide came to take them to the mountain as agreed, and found that they may not have returned to the hotel overnight, and the crowd waited until the evening, so they called the police and informed their parents.

After asking the locals, they learned that the two went to the forest near the Baru Volcano, and the beautiful scenery is also a common hiking route for tourists, hiking for three or four hours to reach the continental watershed, and it is said that the magnificent Caribbean Sea can be seen at the top of the mountain. Although there are many dangers in the jungle such as snakes, insects, tigers and leopards, there are also indigenous people who enter the rainforest. However, the whole case has become more and more bizarre with the deepening of the police investigation.

The search and rescue failed

On the morning of April 3, the local police in Panama joined the residents in the dense forest to begin the search. Three days later, the parents of the two girls arrived in Panama with Dutch police, rescue special forces, police dogs and other units, and joined forces with the local police to conduct a ten-day search. Unfortunately, Panama entered the rainy season at that time, and the torrential rains for several consecutive days also greatly affected the search and rescue, and despite the huge manpower and material resources, no trace of the two people was found.

The girl's parents offered a $30,000 bounty, promising that whoever could provide a clue would take the bounty. At that time, there were search notices everywhere in Panama, television, radio, and even billboards looking for two girls next to the highway, but these messages were sent out, just like the stone sinking into the sea, and there was no response. (Some people said that they were seen having breakfast with two Dutch boys before leaving in the morning, which was not confirmed.)

The girl's parents and the Dutch police had to return to the Netherlands, and as time went on, the local search slowly stopped, and the case became a mysterious disappearance. However, just when everyone was giving up hope, ten weeks later, an indigenous woman of the local Ngobe tribe found a blue backpack by a river called "Big Snake". Hearing of the disappearances, she handed the bag to the local police. The woman came to the river every day to work, and she was sure that the bag was not here yesterday. The police judged that it should be washed down the river, and the middle of the river is through the jungle where the two girls lost, 8 kilometers away.

The floral bra was worn on the day of Lisana's disappearance, probably because the rainforest was too hot, and the two took them off and put them in their backpacks

The inside of the backpack was clean and neatly arranged, with two pairs of sunglasses, Lisana's passport, a bottle of water, a camera, two bras, and $83. It's worth mentioning that Lisana's Samsung phone and Chrissy's Apple phone are also in the bag. Since the local police did not establish a fingerprint bank, they had to hand over the backpack to the Dutch police. Because there is no awareness of protecting fingerprints in Panama, the Dutch police found that there were more than 30 people's fingerprints on the backpack after getting it, and the idea of getting a breakthrough from the fingerprints could only be stopped.

Eerie photos

The police charged up and turned the phone on smoothly. The first thing to look at is this Samsung phone, this phone belongs to Lisana. The call logs show that the two men had been away from the hotel for more than four hours, probably not long after entering the jungle, and the phone had called the local and Dutch police.

From the day of the disappearance on the 1st to the 4th, the police call was called several times a day, but because there was no signal in the mountains, the phone was not opened.

By April 5, the phone had no call history, and the police speculated that the phone was completely out of battery and automatically shut down. So the police opened another Apple phone. The situation of this mobile phone is the same as that of the Samsung mobile phone, it will also make police calls many times a day, and the dialing record of this mobile phone lasts until April 11, and there is no record after that, and it should also be out of power. However, the police found a very important detail through technical means, that is, after the Samsung mobile phone ran out of power on April 6, someone had continuously entered the unlock password on Chrissy's Apple mobile phone, but none of them were entered correctly, and finally the mobile phone was completely locked. (However, it does not affect the call to the police)

Judging by this situation, the police judged that it was most likely That Lisana was holding Chrissy's mobile phone to report to the police, and it should be impossible to ask Chrissy to unlock it, so where did Chrissy go? What happened to her? The police decided to investigate the camera in the backpack, but when the police removed all the photos from the camera, the contents were creepy.

Some of the first photos can be seen that the two girls were taken shortly after they left, that is, at noon on April 1, the photos are normal, there are scenery, there are photos of each other, you can see that they are very happy. It can also be seen from some of the photos that the colorful bra in the backpack was what Lisanna was wearing that day, perhaps because of the hot weather, and she later took it off and put it in the backpack.

The photos start out as normal landscape shots

But curiously, from the afternoon of April 1 to April 8, a full week, the camera was never used again, until between 1:00 a.m. and 4:00 a.m. on April 8. Within three hours, more than ninety consecutive photos were taken with this camera, an average of one every two minutes.

But of the more than ninety-seven photographs, eighty-seven were all pitch black, and at most only some vague outlines of trees and stones could be seen. Three photos are particularly important to see some key information:

The first photograph shows a large stone with a small branch on top of which hangs two red plastic bags.

In the second, a small hillside was photographed with an unknown object shining silver behind the thick grass on the far side of the hill.

The third picture, more important, was taken from the back angle, is a girl's hair, through which you can see some faint blood, through the hairstyle and hair color to judge that it should be Chrissy, she should be injured.

Some other photographs, silvery unknown objects in the distance

Except for these few photos, the other photos are meaningless, either a white expanse taken by the camera's flash, or a pitch black that can't see anything at all.

The police are also unbelievable about these photos, according to the reason, normal shooting will not take such a photo, this is completely random press, more than ninety percent of the photos are pitch black, completely will not be taken, it feels as if something is fiddling with this camera, it should be accidentally taken, which makes people feel very scary. Coupled with the fact that Chrissy's phone had failed to unlock and was locked, the police deduced that by April 6, Chrissy had been separated from Lisana, or Chrissy was unconscious or even dead.

Search along the river

Based on the appearance of this backpack, the police decided to continue the search upstream along the Great Snake River. First, the police found a pair of blue denim shorts on a large rock across the river, which was found to be the denim shorts worn by Chrissy after comparison photos. But strangely enough, the shorts zippers were pulled up and folded very neatly, and a stone was pressed on them, as if they were afraid of being blown away by the wind. There was also a small mirror not far away, some unused toilet paper. These things are all new, and it doesn't seem like it's been here for long.

From the place where the backpack was picked up, up to the riverside grass for more than 100 meters, a white bone was found, the white bone was also very fresh, there was no sign of corrosion, and it was forensically identified as the bone of the human pelvic bone part.

Behind a tree not far away, there was a lady's boots, and even more terrifyingly, there was a broken foot of a man in the shoe. The foot was disconnected from the bare foot, and the incision was very uneven, more like it had been torn off raw.

After the police comparison of the boots, it was found that the women's boots belonged to Chrissy, which means that the foot belonged to Chrissy. At this time, it can be determined that Chrissy is basically no longer alive. What about Lisana? Is he still alive? What the hell is going on?

The final tragedy

The police intensified the search, and within two months, a total of 33 bone fragments were found in this area, and after DNA technology testing, all of these bones belonged to two girls, some bones even carried some residual flesh, and the two girls were undoubtedly killed, but there were many doubts.

After the first search, no other parts were found, and the bones found belonged to the limbs of the person, and there was no main torso or skull. Secondly, the clothes worn by the two men were not found. This made the police have to suspect that it was a man-made crime, deliberately hiding evidence. But why did you throw away your backpack when you committed a crime, isn't that leaving evidence? Why not take $83 out of the bag? Why take the camera and take those meaningless photos and put them back in your bag? And why did the two people kill and then split into such scattered bodies? Doesn't this leave the police with clues against themselves?

And if it is a man-made crime, if two girls are subdued by criminals together, one of them can escape with their backpacks and constantly call the police for 11 days, and the criminal will not call the police himself. Therefore, the police first ruled out the possibility of man-made crimes.

Some people speculate that the two girls got lost in the deep forest, and later starved to death, and after death, the corpses were eaten by animals and finally scattered on both sides of the river. It seems to be more convincing, but there are big loopholes in this. The place where the backpack and bones were found was actually very close to the village, even if it was a slow walk, a day was enough, and the husky at the time of the homestay himself recognized the way back. Perhaps the two girls may have lost the ability to move at that time, or had to stay in the jungle due to external factors.

Forensics and police give a rough inference:

At first, the two went to the sightseeing trail on April 1 to climb the mountain, and everything went well, but in order to seek a different view, the two chose to take a road that no one had walked. Because this road is sparsely populated, coupled with the frequent rain in the tropical rainforest, the road surface is slippery, resulting in the two people accidentally falling off the cliff during the climbing process. The dog didn't recognize the road, so he ran straight home on that path.

Why do you say that the two fell off the cliff, because there is a photo that zooms in and zooms in, and you can see a dangerous local bridge, called the Monkey Bridge, just upstream of the Great Snake River, under a 30-meter-high cliff. The two were under the cliff, Chrissy should have broken her foot, and the strong Lisana was less injured. During this period, the two constantly called the police for help, but there was no signal, and the two decided to go downstream along the Great Snake River without success. During this time, Chrissy pressed her denim shorts under a large rock, hoping to leave clues for rescuers.

By the early hours of April 5, perhaps the temperature in the rainforest was too low, and Chrissy was seriously injured, causing her coma or even death. The Samsung phone she used before was also out of power, so Lisana had to use Chrissy's Apple phone to continue to make emergency calls. In the early hours of April 8, when a search-and-rescue helicopter flew across the sky, Lisana opened the camera in her bag in an attempt to use flash for help, which could explain why more than ninety meaningless empty photographs had been taken. Sadly, the rescue team did not find her.

Perhaps only Lisana was alive, so she continued to call the police until the phone was out of power on the 11th. She should have been starved to death. After the death, the animals ate the bodies of the two men, because Chrissy had shoes on her feet, so the police could find the broken foot, as for the head and other parts of the body may have been taken away by the rising tide of the river after the rain, and the waterproof backpack was washed downstream.

Maybe that's what happened to the two girls. Eight years have passed, and no one can figure out the cause of the girl's death, but it has also brought people painful thoughts and reminders. Although the natural scenery is magnificent and beautiful, there are also many invisible dangers and hidden dangers, and everyone must pay attention to safety when going out to play to avoid the recurrence of this tragedy.
