Apple AR/VR headset or equipped with two Micro OLED and one AMOLED

On January 5, consultancy company DSCC (Display Supply Chain Consultants) predicted in the report that Apple will release an AR/VR dual-mode headset equipped with three display modules in the second half of this year. It is reported that this is a VR headset that supports AR video perspective, which is characterized by two Micro OLED displays and an AMOLED display.

Equipped with three displays, which means that the cost of the headset will not be low, DSCC expects Apple's AR/VR headset to sell for thousands of dollars, and the target audience is professionals and developers.

According to Qingting Network, Sony will provide Micro OLED display technology for Apple AR/VR headsets, after Sony had shown a 4K resolution display applied to VR, with a PPI of up to 4000 and a pixel pitch of only 6.3 microns. If Apple adopts this 4K display, then assuming that the number of pixels on the screen is 4000x4000, then its size may be 1.4 inches (diagonal distance).

The role of the AMOLED display may be to provide a low-resolution display for the user's afterglow vision, in order to support the fovement rendering function, thereby reducing the cost of computing and optimizing the display efficiency. The Varjo VR headset is also through two different displays to achieve a better visual display, the advantage is that the center vision is clear enough. Unlike Varjo, the Varjo VR and XR series models are a total of four screens, that is, the monocular Micro OLED + LCD combination. The report said that Apple may use a large-size AMOLED as a low-resolution visual solution around it.

In addition to the display system, some previous predictions and revelations also pointed out that Apple's AR/VR headset will be equipped with multiple camera sensors (or including LiDAR) to achieve gesture tracking, 3D ranging and so on.
