Don't delay: there is nothing difficult to do in the world
Zeng Guofan said:
All the talented people in the world and in the past and in the world are defeated by a proud word; the mediocre people in the world and in the past and the present are all defeated by a lazy word.
Hundreds of ills, all born from laziness.
Abstain from pride and laziness, and the way of protecting the family is also.
Most people are mediocre all their lives because of laziness. Mei Lanfang was also mediocre in qualifications at first, but he was not willing to do so, studied and practiced diligently, and eventually became a generation of masters.
The mediocre loses to laziness, but the genius loses to arrogance. Li Zicheng was brave and talented, rebelled and became king, but because of the victory, he bred pride and eventually suffered a fiasco.
When Zeng Guofan was in the army, he asked himself to get up early, no matter what kind of weather or what kind of environment, he must "smell the chicken dancing", train and supervise the training, and handle various affairs.
Zeng Guofan said to the generals in the army:
"The way of training troops must be carried out day and night by officials, but it can be gradually more familiar. If the chicken incubates the eggs, such as the furnace alchemy, it should not be slightly separated. ”

Zeng Guofan's "abstinence from saying more" originated from a small matter, when he had just entered the Hanlin Academy, he was proud of the spring breeze, and once when he was celebrating his father's birthday, he boasted about his friend Zheng Xiaoshan who came to wish for his birthday, and he was a little overwhelmed, which caused Zheng Xiaoshan to be disgusted and whisked his sleeve away.
Afterwards, Zeng Guofan regretted it a lot, and he reflected in his diary that he had three major mistakes. The first is that they usually think that they are self-righteous; the second is that they do not open the door when they talk about it, and they want to talk to wherever they want; the third is that they have clearly offended people by speaking, and they have also argued with people, even to the point of being inhumane. Summarizing these three points, Zeng Guofan said that as a standard Confucian intellectual, he could not even understand the truth in the Book of Rites that "evil words do not come from the mouth, and words of anger do not reflect on oneself", and even the language barrier cannot be passed, what can be a big deal?
Zeng Guofan has worked hard all his life on "abstaining from saying more", and he not only often criticizes himself for "the loss of daily speech, which is really a ghost!" He also often asks himself "how much humor is spoken, but not out of sincerity in his heart", this kind of speech habits, personality shortcomings, "When can I pull up this root?" He not only had this requirement for himself to "abstain from saying more", but also regarded it as a very important part of the wisdom of family training, especially for his two sons and several younger brothers.
"Standing up is based on not speaking nonsense", as the saying goes, "evil comes out of the mouth", the most taboo thing to stand up for is frivolity and complacency, so as to say something inappropriate, or lie and brag for the sake of self-boasting. Because this may bring disaster to yourself, and you will also lose the trust and respect of others. People who like to be quick to talk for a while will not be able to achieve great things in the end.

Man does not do: there are wise men, and there are degrees of square circles

Throughout history, there are many talented people who have been belittled and lost their lives because of their "work", such as in the Water Margin: Niu Er faced Yang Zhi and called you to cut me! The result is a knife kill! Perhaps, sometimes blindly straight and progressive seems to be a kind of loyalty, a kind of excitement, but if you can judge the situation and weigh the moment, you will find that in some occasions, its relative softness and retreat are also another kind of wisdom.
Han Xin's crotch humiliation, Su Wu's Ru Mao drinking blood, is to retreat after weighing the small insults and the big festival; Dongfang Shuo's wit and humor, The cleverness and humor of Chunqiu Yanzi, are the roundabout talents after weighing outspoken and gentle words, while Wei Zheng's firmness and perseverance, Di Renjie's honesty and direct lyricism, are radical generosity after weighing the king's heart and public opinion.
Whether it is to retreat into advance, roundabout or radical generosity, when used correctly, it is a good recipe, and when it is used wrong, it is a weapon that is enough to be deadly, and the degree of balance in it really needs to be weighed by the user himself to be properly grasped.
Li Mian once said in "Half a Song": "Drinking is half drunk, and the flowers are half time to be partial." "The wine is slightly drunk, the flower is half a flower, it is just the right fun, and it breaks the true meaning of life's communication."
