Fang Xianjue was a strict and heroic general who ruled the army, and after receiving the order from his superiors, he did not hesitate for a moment and immediately led his brothers to build a defensive offensive and prepare for a long battle.
At that time, the total number of soldiers on his hands was less than 20,000, but there were as many as 100,000 Japanese troops attacking Hengyang, and in the case that the weapons and equipment were not as good as the number of the other side, Fang Xianjue began to carry out defensive warfare in the early morning of June 23, 1944, when the Japanese attack was very fierce, and Fang Xianjue and others soon paid an extremely painful price. However, they did not have any intention of giving in, always held their positions, and all died on the battlefield.
In the later stages of the war, even the logisticians in charge of paperwork and cooking took to the battlefield with the belief that they would die. From June 23 until the beginning of August, Fang Xianjue and others always held the position of Hengyang. Unfortunately, the reinforcements never arrived in time, but the enemy's reinforcements kept coming. In the end, Fang Xianjue, in order to protect 8,000 wounded from slaughter, reluctantly surrendered to the Japanese army in the case of running out of ammunition and food. The war was known as the Defense of Moscow in the East, and Fang Xianjue's Tenth Army fought against the Japanese army for forty-seven days. As a result, 7,400 people were killed and more than 8,000 wounded, while the Japanese troops they killed were about 50,000.
In other words, the ratio of war losses between the enemy and us is as high as 5:1, which is a miracle in the military history of the entire world. Therefore, although Fang Xianjue failed to hold his position, he was recognized and respected by more people.
