Zhang Zongyuan was actually a Japanese, formerly known as Date Shunnosuke, who had actually done a lot of earth-shattering things when he was planning the Yexian massacre, such as planning the "Manchurian independence movement", assassinating Zhang Zuolin, and so on.
And this Zhang Zongyuan is also a full-fledged Chinese, he not only often uses Chinese names, but also speaks Chinese, and also married the great warlord Zhang Zongchang as a brother, and even became a naturalized Chinese at one time.
Of course, by this time in 1938, Zhang Zongyuan was no longer brilliant, and the northeast was his base and now he was exiled to Qingdao, but after all, he was Japanese, and he was also a Chinese general, so naturally he would not be willing to let himself be unknown.
With the Japanese invading army invading Shandong, Zhang Zongyuan felt that his opportunity for a comeback had come, so he successively incorporated Zhang Zongchang's old subordinates Cheng Guorui, Gao Yupu, and the bandits Liu Guitang and Zhang Buyun, and changed his name to "Shandong Provincial Self-Strengthening Army" and made himself commander-in-chief.
In September 1938, Zhang Zongyuan, Zhao Baoyuan, Liu Guitang, Zhang Buyun and others invaded Pingdu one after another, and under the obstruction of the Jiaodong Eighth Route Army, their attempts to invade YeXian and open the Yanwei Highway failed to succeed. After another three months of preparation, on January 15, 1939, they once again attacked ye county town, and the Eighth Route Army was ordered to withdraw, and Yecheng fell into the hands of the enemy.
After Zhang Zongyuan invaded Ye County, he co-opted the local gangs to frantically arrest people in the city and Guanxiang. Liu Baoyuan, who sold fire, li Wenjin, Peng Ermazi, who opened a restaurant, and so on were all arrested because they had sold food to the Eighth Route Army. Fang Mou and Song Xirui were also arrested because they were the heads of the self-defense regiment. Peng Jinquan worked in the five detachments of the Eighth Route Army, and Rikou arrested both his father and his wife, who was 8 months pregnant.
Hou Wenhai of Dongguan was arrested for not wanting to make counterfeit banknotes, and Peng Guoqing and his wife were arrested for no reason. Zhai Gonghe, Du Juntang, Li Xiaoguang. Zhang Fukui, Leng Wanlu, Yu Dezhang, Hou Shuzeng's sister, 16-year-old teenager Zhang Fulai and others. Most of those caught were beheaded or stabbed to death. There were four massacres by the enemy, the first on the night of January 25, in the west courtyard of the county government, killing 34 people, of whom 4 were women, and the second was on the night of the 27th of January, in the former Provincial Ninth Middle School, killing more than 120 people. The third time was: on the night of the 28th of the month, more than 250 people were killed in the former JiuzhongNan Playground and the West Courtyard of the County Government. On the fourth occasion, the enemy also killed more than 40 people in the backyard of Dahongchang Qianzhuang, and the Japanese Kou led by Zhang Zongyuan slaughtered more than 440 people in Yecheng.
