When he grew up, he was promoted to serve in several counties. Later, after Liu Bei captured Yizhou, Yang Hong was made the prince of Taishou (太守) and appointed Gong Cao (功曹). During Yang Hong's tenure, Li Yan wanted to relocate Qian to the county seat, but Yang Hong tried to persuade him but was not adopted. Yang Hong resigned from Gong Cao in a huff and went into seclusion. Li Yanyin felt that Yang Hong was a talent, so he recommended him to the state capital and served in the Shu County!
